Every year, a family home is turned into a haunted house. The purpose is not only to be as terrifying as possible, but also to create a spectacular attraction to draw the neighbors in. The situation grows increasingly complicated, broken and distressed as the family’s problems intercede in their plans and as their real lives become the film’s true and overriding scary haunt.

Acclaimed American writer Dennis Cooper is famous for his novels, poems and short stories full of violent, drug-fueled queer characters and explicit fantasies of sexual violence. Permanent Green Light, co-directed with visual artist Zac Farley, looks like a friendlier version of his literary universe but preserves its inner and subversive tension: a young French man wants to blow himself up in public, without any clear reason. The film builds an idiosyncratic world of seemingly detached boys and abstract suburban areas. Cooper and Farley are more focused on their confused emotions than ideology, translating their death wish into quirky and sensual situations. It's a fascinating work on the beauty and danger of youth, and true to Copper's observation of filmmaker Robert Bresson used in his novel Try: "The thing that matters is not what actors show me but what they hide from me and, above all, what they do not suspect is in them."

A young man hires a male prostitute who can dramatically slow his metabolism. The john is trying to process the suicide of a friend that occurred after the john rejected him as a lover. A young male in a dark punk club screams into a microphone all of the violent traumas he or people close to him have suffered. Two male audience members who seem like they’re part of the show hold the performer down, finger his asshole and force their penises into his mouth while the performer goes on with his confession. A young man asks another young man if he has any heroin, and says that he’ll fuck in exchange for some, then mentions offhandedly that he’ll be dead in two days anyhow.
