Emmi would like to cancel her subscription to "Like" magazine via e-mail. But due to a typo, her messages land in Leo Leike’s inbox. When Emmi repeatedly sends mails to the wrong address, Leo decides to inform her of her mistake. This marks the beginning of an extraordinary e-mail exchange, which can only be held between two strangers. Treading the fine line between complete strangeness and noncommittal intimacy, the two are soon sharing their innermost secrets and longings – until they need to face the unavoidable question: Will their feelings, sent and received virtually, survive the test of a real-life encounter? And what will happen if they do?

Not so long ago, Martin was a gifted mathematician with a career and a steady girlfriend. But after a spell in psychiatric care, he is released with no job and no way of supporting himself, labelled as mentally ill. Viktor is a young Ukrainian boy recently orphaned following his mother's OD. When the two meet, Martin takes Victor under his wing, and fleeing the city, they escape to a forest where they manage to build a hut robust enough to live in. Though not easy, their back-to-nature subsistence life is idyllic by comparison to what they have left behind, and the pair become firm friends. Martin even meets a sympathetic young woman, Lena, who he encourages to live in a more idealistic way. But just as Martin has started to find happiness, harsh reality intervenesÖ Director Hans Weingartner is best known here for his second film, The Edukators, but his new film is closer to his debut feature, The White Noise (LFF 2000). In common with that film, Hut in the Woods takes a progressive view of mental illness, creating believable and likeable characters and telling their story with empathy and an enviable lightness of touch. The dream of a different life: two drifters, off to see the world. An older and a younger woman are driving across the country in West Germany for a perfume company. But they have enough of their daily routine. So they decide to take their life in their own hands. They become robbers to realize their dreams: a place in Bali or an apartment in Paris. Christian Petzold’s perfect debut in feature-length film develops the overall design of his cinema for the first time, and with a sleepwalking certainty. A world where lapidary gestures are trying to hide the deepest melancholy and where characters try to override their inner stasis by an outward moving on. A word where all the sadness of existence gets comprehensible – and bearable by a laconic sense of humor.
