Three noble single women live between traditional demands and everyday life, between a castle and a prefabricated building, torn apart by their parents' expectations and their own deeply internalised demands. They are outsiders in the microcosm of the German aristocracy. If they want to continue to belong to the aristocracy, they have to marry an aristocratic man or stay single, because within the aristocracy the "male principle" applies.

The story follows friends Hedi (Valerie Stoll), Fritzi (Lia von Blarer), Harry (Joel Basman) and Georg (Damian Thüne). Hedi is a sales assistant in the warehouse owned by Fritzi's father. During a robbery at the KaDeWe, the two meet and fall in love. Despite considerable social resistance, as well as their families’ disapproval, the two very different young women start a relationship. Another unusual alliance is formed when Harry (Joel Basman), the older brother of Fritzi, who is a war veteran and comes back to take over the warehouse, has to confront young clerk Georg (Damian Thüne), in whom Harry's strict father has placed his trust.

During a robbery at KaDeWe, of all places, a magical encounter occurs between Hedi, a saleswoman in the textile department, and Fritzi, the daughter of KaDeWe owner Adolf Jandorf. It is love at first sight: Against all social and family odds, the two disparate young women begin a passionate relationship. At the same time, Fritzi's older brother and war returnee Harry is fighting for his father's recognition as the new junior manager of KaDeWe - and against his own despair. At Harry's side is Georg, a general manager placed in front of him by his father, who has worked his way up from a poor background to the top echelons of KaDeWe. Georg, of all people, will play a decisive role in the future fate of the department store...
