The film tells the story of a mother who dedicates her life to her daughter. Reyhan is pregnant with Kenan's child. After a while, Kenan leaves Reyhan. Reyhan gives birth alone and leaves her daughter in a mosque courtyard. Just as she is about to commit suicide, she is saved by Vedat. Vedat helps Reyhan get back on her feet by giving her a job at his company. Their relationship eventually turns into love, and they get married. Vedat finds Reyhan's daughter, Çağla, and adds her to his family. As Çağla grows up and becomes a young woman, she begins to rebel against her family. She defies her mother and marries Cem, a fortune hunter. Reyhan will sacrifice her life to save her daughter from Cem.

In the historic Roma quarter of Sulukule, its colorful residents, led by matriarch Sabahat, her niece Güllü, and rival chieftain candidates Uncle Bekir and family friend Bayram, face their first ever democratic election for “çeribaşı,” erupting into drunken brawls and police interventions. When desperate for funds Sabahat forces Güllü to perform at drug-smuggler Tayfur’s nightclub, a suitcase mix-up reveals hidden cash that spares Bayram from suicide and upends the entire community’s fortunes.

Orhan, who works at a bank, has an unhappy marriage. His wife, Şermin, drinks constantly, gambles, and neglects her family. Orhan tries to keep his marriage going for the sake of his son. However, one day, after an argument with his wife, Şermin leaves home. After his wife leaves, Orhan meets Leyla, a singer. What begins as a simple fling turns into love for Orhan. However, being with Leyla will not be as easy as Orhan had imagined.

A fortune-teller reveals the Sultan that his daughter will get married to somebody poor, born on the same day with her. So, the Sultan gets all the baby boys born on the same day are killed and only Kadir is saved. Kadir and Leyla grow up together. Leyla wants to marry him but the Sultan refuses this idea. He orders Kadir to be killed, yet Kadir survives fatally wounded. Leyla finds Kadir's place where he is kept as a prisoner. As they escape they get caught. Leyla dies and Kadir who has lost her loved one goes to the desert with the image of Leyla alive in his heart.
