作者: Nancy Spector / Mark Taylor publishing house: Guggenheim Museum 2007 - 1 其它标题: Matthew Barney & Joseph Beuys: All in the Present Must Be Transformed
All in the Present Must Be Transformed: Matthew Barney and Joseph Beuys examines key affinities between these two seminal twentieth-century artists, who, though separated by generation and geography, share many aesthetic and conceptual concerns. Published in conjunction with the exhibition at the Deutsche Guggenheim, Berlin, it focuses on the two artists' metaphoric use of materials, their interest in metamorphosis, their employment of narrative structures and the relationship between action and documentation in their work. The exhibition, whose content is drawn largely from the Guggenheim's substantial permanent collection, pairs a selection of drawings and vitrines by both artists, as well as Barney's multipart sculpture, "Chrysler Imperial" (2002) from Cremaster 3, with Beuys' installation "Terremoto" (1981). The book examines the performative side of both artists' practices, as evidenced by the way each has theatricalized his own sculptural production. In addition, it documents both artists' one-person exhibitions at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York and includes an extensive selection of drawings and key comparative works.
Matthew Wong: Blue View (DELMONICO BOOKS) [图书] Goodreads 豆瓣
作者: Julian Cox / Nancy Spector publishing house: DELMONICO BOOKS/ART GALLERY OF ONTARIO 2021 - 11
Over the course of his brief career, Matthew Wong was celebrated for his paintings evoking diverse historical references ranging from Chinese scroll painting to Van Gogh and Vuillard. His colorful, dappled vignettes of imaginary landscapes and half-remembered interiors have the uncanny ability to, in his words, “activate nostalgia, both personal and collective.”
This first museum publication features more than 60 of Wong’s deeply evocative blue paintings, of intimate interior scenes and luscious nocturnal landscapes, from his Blue Series made between 2017 and 2019.
Wong’s Blue Series paintings are notable for their saturated and richly varied blue palette and pervasive sense of melancholy, enhanced by solitary figures. The striking compositions reflect Wong’s technique of flattening the depth of space between the foreground and background with deft combinations of wet and dry brushwork. From monumental oils on canvas to smaller gouache and watercolor paintings, this body of work reveals Wong’s intimate and intense meditations on blue that is, as essayist Nancy Spector writes, “as much a mood as it is a color.”
With an introduction by Julian Cox, essays by Spector and Winnie Wong, and a chronology, this publication brings together scholarly voices to provide fresh insight and perspective on Wong’s work and his short-lived but exceptionally brilliant career.

A Guggenheim Museum Publication
Japanese artist Hiroshi Sugimoto is renowned for his elegant photographic series of seascapes, theaters, museum dioramas, and Buddhist statuary. His new series presents life-size, black-and-white portraits of historical figures-Henry VIII and each of his wives, Voltaire, Benjamin Franklin, Oscar Wilde, and Emperor Hirohito, among others-photographed in wax museums, isolated against black backgrounds, and dramatically lit so as to create haunting Rembrandtesque images. The series, which also includes a 25-foot, five-panel photograph of a wax effigy of Leonardo's Last Supper, emulates the grand tradition of portraiture and recalls the wax figures' sources in famous paintings by Holbein, David, van Dyck, and Vermeer.
This book, published to accompany an exhibition of commissioned work for the Deutsche Guggenheim Berlin that also travels to the Guggenheim Museo Bilbao, includes texts by a team of art historians and an interview with Sugimoto, offering fresh insights into the work of this contemporary artist.
