Eraserhead (1977)I don't know if I would go so far as to recommend people go see Eraserhead, but if you're going to, I suggest going with good friends who have no idea what they're in for. ok, now I've had some sleep and some coffee and am a bit more coherent. If you can't watch this film, I recommend listening to it. There's a lot of good sound design. The establishing shots play like Liminal Space: The Movie -- desolate streets, wind blowing through a chainlink fence, a lone figure trudging past an abandoned factory. The bulk of the film plays to me like a demented fever dream about parenthood. Henry is frantic and driven to distraction by the unearthly child in his care and in the end it's not really relevant what's in his head or what's real. Or whether real is even a thing in this movie.. there's a lot of hints of the Black Lodge in that building - the floor, the furnishings.
