And it's exactly what you'd expect: plays like Doom, looks like Mario. Unfortunately, its level design seems to be more inspired by the latter than the former. It's pretty basic. Most rooms are rather tiny, and keys are usually only a couple of rooms away from the door. I mean, it is good in the sense that you'll never get lost, but also this makes the world feel much less immersive.

I mean, we've seen some miracles performed with GZDoom, and this isn't one of them. While it does have a few mechanics that aren't in Doom itself, none of them are really original or add a lot of mechanical depth.

Don't get me wrong though, overall Mala Petaka is a competent shooter. And if you're in it for the aesthetics, it definitely delivers. But personally I got bored rather quickly.

40 minutes in, I wanted to return to the hub just to take a glance at other episodes and quit, but suddenly I discovered that I can't go back. Turned out that was because I reached the first boss battle, and I assume the end of the episode. So I figured I'd beat him and then quit, but during the battle I ran out of ammo, lol. Tried punching the guy to death, but couldn't make it.
