A very subpar experience altogether

Drenched in that godawful synthwave aesthetic that I'm so sick of. 80s nostalgia from the people who weren't born in the 80s. Everything is purple!

Beyond Sunset feels like a mishmash of various influences that lacks its own coherent vision. You have your melee hack-n-slash mechanics with acrobatics straight out of Titanfall that are completely not accommodated by the insane difficulty even on easy mode, not to mention such an emphasis on melee feels very jarring with the limited physics of GZDoom. Then there's the Deus Ex-like hubs that don't come together in a coherent world and a dialogue system that shines light on the poor writing. The cyber-space combat is deliberately simplified compared to the main game, but that only means it's a chore to play, and so are the mediocre puzzles. The universe of Beyond Sunset is a dull, generic, aesthetic cyberpunk that has nothing interesting to say about the progression of late-stage capitalism into the near future. It's all part of the 40+ year-long masturbatory tradition of aping Blade Runner, which has completely degraded cyberpunk as a genre.

About the only time the game shines is when it engages you in your standard boomer shooter sequence, but even then it restricts you with limited ammo, poor enemy placements and cheap and annoying enemy types.
