9,500 years old! And still intact!
Mesolithic woven baskets from Spain’s Cueva de los Murciélagos (“Cave of the Bats”) are Europe’s oldest known basketry.
Thanks to the cave’s near‑zero humidity, organic materials didn’t decay, preserving several baskets for more than 9,000.
Currently on display at @MuseumHalle mastodon.social , on loan from National Museum Madrid.
The special exhibition is highly recommended for anyone with an interest in prehistoric archaeology.
And we're digging! Already found the foundation of an 1800s barn and a lot of modern scrap metal.
