This Statue of Liberty thread is especially relevant this year, when everyone is trying to pretend that US fascism against immigrants is something new, by ignoring the ongoing US fascism against Black people. People love to erase or ignore Black suffering. But we're still here, and we stubbornly refuse to be erased or ignored.

Astronaut Leland Melvin. Also a former professional football player. He flew two missions on the Space Shuttle Atlantis as a mission specialist. In all, Melvin logged over 565 hours in space. & he took the GREATEST official NASA astronaut photo in history.

#OnThisDay, 11 Feb 1989, the Rev Barbara Harris is consecrated, the first woman to become a Bishop in the worldwide Anglican Communion. Due to death threats, she was advised to wear a bulletproof vest at the ceremony: she declined.
