Rated Mistborn: The Final Empire 8/10
Mistborn: The Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson is a fantasy novel set in a world ruled by a tyrant known as the Lord Ruler. The story follows Vin, a young thief with the power of Allomancy, as she finds herself a part of a rebellion against the Lord Ruler. She meets and befriends other Allomancers and is tasked to act as a spy for the rebellion.
As someone who has read Sanderson's other works, specifically the Stormlight Archive series, I found Mistborn: The Final Empire to be a faster-paced read. However, while the plot moves quickly, I would have appreciated more time to build up the relationships between the characters. I wish there had been more time for the characters to get to know each other better, and <spoiler>for the romance between Vin and Elend to develop more slowly. It felt a bit rushed, and I would have loved to see more of their interactions and conversations.</spoiler>
I still found the story to be engaging and well-written. Sanderson's world-building is excellent, and the magic system of Allomancy is fascinating. The characters are amazing, and would have you rooting for them all the way. The themes and conflicts in Mistborn: The Final Empire felt relevant to real-world issues of power and oppression, which is nice to read from a fantasy novel. I loved the little twist at the end!
As many others have put it, Sanderson's writing style is simple (but good, in my opinion), which makes the book easy to follow. Overall, I enjoyed Mistborn: The Final Empire a lot and would recommend it to fans of fantasy and action-packed stories, or as a first foray into Brandon Sanderson's works in general :)
