Since I do not have the knowledge to write a theme myself l, I turn to <a href="/tags/chatgpt/" rel="tag">#ChatGPT</a> and instructed it to write a theme from scratch, with minimal styling and no JS at all. It now works locally and I probably will switch to it soon after more tests.
