One of my earliest food memories: buying fresh coconuts from the back of someone’s truck in a parking lot. Walking my coconuts to the back of the Econ Minimart where the auntie who ran it had a coconut squeezer and scraper. Walking away with fresh coconut milk, and a bag of coconut flesh. I was probably four

Then one time, walking to my office in Jakarta and realizing I couldn’t access it because the entire ground floor was full of actual coconuts.

The other day I was watching an American food show and the host was complaining about coconuts in their cake (“so unconventional, you don’t always want coconuts in cakes”) and I was like what are you talking about, I never NOT want coconuts. You guys just have shitty coconuts, shitty coconut milk, and words of all, terrible ‘coconut water’

I miss that part of the world so terribly.

#TootSea #Food #Coconuts
