I finally called the veterinary hospital in Manhattan yesterday to schedule Molly's surgery and... my vet was wildly incorrect in quoting me the price! He basically quoted me the 2016 price. 😬

I had finally saved up the $3500 I thought I needed, $1500 of which was generously donated by other people, but the receptionist yesterday told me that the surgery is now $5000.

So, we are in a holding pattern again unless I decide to not pay my property taxes -- which is not something I can do. I also don't qualify for CareCredit.

I should be able to save up the extra $1500 myself before spring from my dog care job, so that is when I will schedule her surgery. I wouldn't want to risk driving 150 miles round-trip in bad weather over the winter, anyway.

I've squirreled away everything that I had already saved toward her surgery, everything I was given by other people for her surgery, and I am now working to save up at least another $1500. (I am aiming for $2000 so I can also pay for our travel expenses/misc.)

I still don't know how I'm going to pay for the plumbing repair that I need to get done before winter, because I can't pull from the property tax fund or the surgery fund. I've had one plumber ghost me, so I'm on my third call. Yesterday I was looking at what it would take to put in a simple gray water distribution system, which is illegal here, and wouldn't serve well in winter, but needs must.

A client gifted me an entire bottle, 180 tablets, of Molly's pain medication -- which was an incredibly generous gift. That will last us six months, and it saves us over $200 -- which would be the cost of getting it from my vet.

She isn't healed on the pain medication, but she's doing well on the pain medication, especially with the restricted movement. But we all already have cabin fever. Serious cabin fever. It hasn't even snowed yet!

A friend who recently lost their dog to cancer has kindly offered to walk her now and then, so I should be able to take Miles on runs guilt-free on those days.

One of my clients who has had one dog with a double whammy of this surgery said that they knew one knee was bad, but once they got the surgery done on the first knee, the next knee was also bad, so I'm preparing in case we will have to repeat this process again in late 2026 -- which we will do unless her x-rays of her left knee look fine. I won't know until I take her in for evaluation in the spring. My vet did say that she will have to have both knees done at some point, but I know of other dogs that have only had one knee done and they seem fine.

I'm posting our fundraiser again just for reference, and it is pinned to the top of my profile, but I won't be pushing hard for donations again until February or so.

Flocke war völlig verwahrlost im Shelter in Bucov. Ihr Fell war nicht mehr einfach nur ungepflegt – es war zu einer riesigen Last für sie geworden. Pufy wurde vor der Tierklinik an einen Baum angebunden. Einfach zurückgelassen. Was muss in einem Hund vorgehen, wenn der Mensch, dem er vertraut, ihn einfach an einen Baum bindet und zurücklässt? 💔 Pufy hatte Glück, dass er gefunden wurde. Und jetzt hatte er noch einmal Glück: Er durfte ausreisen. 🍀 Nun soll er erleben, dass Menschen auch anders sein können. Dass ein Zuhause Sicherheit bedeutet.
