<p>A Second World War air raid shelter, filled with fascinating portraits scrawled on the walls.</p><p>Inside one of the chambers is a time capsule underground art gallery, of sorts. The walls are covered with around 20 portraits, mostly drawn in charcoal or soot. Many depict women with 1940s hairstyles, alongside soldiers and well-dressed men. Some are signed with initials.</p><p><a href="/tags/england/" rel="tag">#England</a> <a href="/tags/worldwar2/" rel="tag">#WorldWar2</a> <a href="/tags/ww2/" rel="tag">#WW2</a> <a href="/tags/history/" rel="tag">#History</a> <a href="/tags/bunker/" rel="tag">#Bunker</a> <a href="/tags/shelter/" rel="tag">#Shelter</a> <a href="/tags/photography/" rel="tag">#Photography</a> <a href="/tags/underground/" rel="tag">#Underground</a> <a href="/tags/mastoart/" rel="tag">#MastoArt</a> <a href="/tags/sketch/" rel="tag">#Sketch</a> <a href="/tags/portrait/" rel="tag">#Portrait</a></p>
<p>⏳ Times up. Sadly, this historical place is about to disappear forever.</p><p>Demolition work is underway on the site, progressing steadily at this 1940s aircraft research facility. Once at the cutting edge of aerodynamics R&D, the site's 8x8ft supersonic tunnel tested flight components at Mach 2.5.</p><p>Already the smaller 3x3 tunnel facility and control room have been levelled; this one looks to be set to be next.</p><p><a href="/tags/aerodynamics/" rel="tag">#Aerodynamics</a> <a href="/tags/history/" rel="tag">#History</a> <a href="/tags/coldwar/" rel="tag">#ColdWar</a> <a href="/tags/england/" rel="tag">#England</a> <a href="/tags/abandoned/" rel="tag">#Abandoned</a> <a href="/tags/urbanexploration/" rel="tag">#UrbanExploration</a> <a href="/tags/urbex/" rel="tag">#Urbex</a></p>
<p>⛪An abandoned church hall, later used as a nightclub. Somewhere in England.</p><p>Built in 1903 as a Methodist Central Hall, before its 1990s rebirth as a nightclub. It was a legendary rave venue for two decades.</p><p>The building’s history hasn't been without tragedy. It was the site of several fatalities: a fatal fall from the clock tower in the 90s, a murder outside the venue, and a drug-related death in the 2000s.</p><p><a href="/tags/england/" rel="tag">#England</a> <a href="/tags/history/" rel="tag">#History</a> <a href="/tags/buildingsatrisk/" rel="tag">#BuildingsAtRisk</a> <a href="/tags/photography/" rel="tag">#Photography</a> <a href="/tags/abandoned/" rel="tag">#Abandoned</a> <a href="/tags/urbex/" rel="tag">#Urbex</a> <a href="/tags/church/" rel="tag">#Church</a> <a href="/tags/nightclub/" rel="tag">#Nightclub</a></p>
