finished watching Loudermilk Season 3
Addiction, disabilities, mental health, masculinity... those aren't easy themes to get right, much less when making a comedy, and this show mostly doesn't, but a few times it nails them. I liked its point about objectifying disabled people, even mentioning Stella Young's "Inspiration Porn", but most of the time it just feels wrong. There's a fine line between normalizing and trivializing, and I don't think Farrelly is the right person to navigate such heavy issues.
After finishing the last season I checked the net, expecting to read a lot of outraged people, but the outrage I'm finding is the total opposite of what I expected: it comes from asshats claiming that the show was "too woke".
Yes, let that sink in, they're saying that Loudermilk, made by a Farrelly brother, is too woke. Are we really that polarized or are the algorithms selecting only MAGA nutjobs to throw at my face? I couldn't make this shit up if I tried.

I give up. I've made it through 5 episodes by trying to deny how bad this is and focusing on the Cassette Futurism design, but this show is terrible.

I wanted to take another look at the sets, lighting, production design... I should have watched the making of, maybe some stills, because I can't focus on the visuals, not while this... this remix of old elements posing as a new movie annoys me.

I'd rather believe that I've failed as a viewer, that it's my fault somehow and Edgar Wright didn't make a terrible, disjointed mess of a movie. ;_;

Stylish and/but derivative, I still haven't decided if that's a bad thing here: the movie is proud of all the elements it rips from other sci-fi-horrors, as it rips them from the best, and it knows to coat them with cool electric lights and production design too good for its budget. Look, the director is called Flying Lotus, this isn't going to be subtle nor high-brow.
I can't say the movie's great, I was bored at times due to uneven pacing and the constant feeling that cheap twists are coming, but I can appreciate an exercise in style. I just wish that movies didn't have to rely so much in the past.

I don't remember much from the original one, but I remember that it felt punk, that was its main attraction, and this version doesn't have it.
