We're going ahead and adding `miniwa.moe` to our list of suspended servers across #MastodonAppUK #Universeodon and #MedMastodon as there appears to be no active moderation taking place and reports of transphobic behaviour have been ignored by their moderators.

I'm not expecting this to impact the vast majority of folks across our instances but you might see a follower / following drop by 1 or 2.

Just a note for some of the other #MastoAdmin 's out there - On Universeodon.com we've seen a huge number of reports for an account due to it being a new account with no posts and a very large follower / following count.

As far as I can currently see and based on the info provided when they requested an account it's migrating from another instance. As far as I can see the account is in fact legitimate but we will keep an eye as I appreciate it is "Weird" having a 0 post account with thousands of followers / following relationships all of a sudden.

If anyone does see anything weird with any of the accounts on the instances please do report it as it is appreciated. I can't directly reply to these reports so didn't want folks to think it had been entirely ignored!

Noticed a large amount of traffic started coming from Meta/Facebook AI bots crawling public posts, and thus filling our instance storage with 100's of GBs of cached media within 24 hours, much faster than our usual cleanup job would catch.

Suggest blocking the "meta-externalagent" user agent from your web server, and the following IP ranges:

Friendly reminder: last year I built FediMod FIRES, a protocol and reference server implementation for sharing moderation data.

I haven't yet been able to get anyone to adopt it or even signal intent to adopt. But regularly I see people complaining about the lack of data sharing when it comes to moderation, especially for combating spam, scams, and harassment. The tool is there, please use it!

Whilst I'm not actively working on FediMod FIRES this quarter, I did apply in November for a grant to continue that work, and last I heard a few weeks ago is that the grant made it to the next stage, so I may have some money again to fund development.

It's not 1.0.0 yet, because I decided it needed more work for me to be happy to call it that, but it is usable!

Installation is also super simple for data producers, literally two commands on debian or ubuntu boxes.

Just checked mastodon.art’s blocklist on fba.ryona.agency and saw several of my colleague’s instances getting blocked with a reason that’s completely false at all.

You good, dotart? Even being friendly with other sides is considered bad to your standards, and then an Indonesian instance of someone that i know (fourvo.id) is being marked as “Islamophobia”? You’re not even a muslim to begin, with yet you put a false reason on that one. In all of seriousness, Do you really wanna start a slander? dotart? if not, then can you explain with your “holy policy”?

I know mastodon.art by itself is already bad, But i never thought that it would be this bad.

Do you still wanna use their blocklist after this one, #fediblock ?

We're adding mastodon.cloud to our #Fediblock list due to the instance seemingly being abandoned with open signups and zero moderation. The burden of us suspending accounts locally is not practical when the instance is out of date and not being maintained.

It's been flagged since August last year - https://social.growyourown.services/@FediTips/115027342813989021 so I don't see it likely that anything is suddenly going to change.

最近联邦宇宙出现一轮大规模撞库盗号：9 月 6 日 12:05–12:41 UTC 短短一小时内，至少 82 个实例、142+ 个账号被同一套脚本改名为「HACKED - Join t[.]me/HomeFucker5」并置顶垃圾帖。我站也有两个账号中招。

这是撞库（拿其他网站泄露的邮箱+密码来登录），不是 Mastodon 或站点的安全漏洞：从 4.1 到 4.8-nightly、已打满补丁的实例都被命中。攻击者先用密码悄悄"验号"，几周后再集中变现，所以现在没发帖不代表没被盗。

建议各位站长排查：
• 登录记录（login_activities）中 UA 为 Go-http-client/1.1 的成功登录，尤其来自这三个 IP：193.202.84.104、45.134.142.231、81.92.219.205
• 昵称含「HACKED」的账号；近期新建的、名为「boost」的 OAuth 应用
• 命中的账号：重置密码、吊销全部会话与应用授权、通知本人
• 提前在 管理 → 审核 → IP 规则 把上述 IP 设为「禁止访问」

也请提醒所有用户：换一个只在本站使用的新密码，开启两步验证，密码不要和其他网站重复。

[Admin alert | Mass credential-stuffing account takeovers]
A large credential-stuffing wave hit the fediverse on 6 Sep 2026, 12:05–12:41 UTC: 142+ accounts on 82+ instances were renamed "HACKED - Join t[.]me/HomeFucker5" with pinned spam. Two accounts on my instance were hit.

This is credential stuffing (leaked email+password pairs from other sites), NOT a Mastodon or server vulnerability: victims run everything from 4.1 to 4.8-nightly, including fully patched servers. The bot quietly validates passwords weeks in advance and monetizes in one wave, so "no spam yet" does not mean "not compromised".

Admins, please check:
• login_activities for successful logins with user-agent Go-http-client/1.1, especially from 193.202.84.104, 45.134.142.231, 81.92.219.205
• display names containing "HACKED"; recently created OAuth apps named "boost"
• For any hit: reset the password, revoke all sessions and app authorizations, notify the user
• Pre-emptively add those IPs under Moderation → IP rules as "No access"

Please remind your users: set a new password used only here, enable 2FA, and never reuse a password across sites.

* most likely lots of AI generated accounts

* if you block all their accounts and delete the accounts' data, you'll generate a lot of free space on your instance's server
