<p>Chicago Water Tower Christmas </p><p>I&#x27;ve titled this photograph &#x27;City of Chicago Old Water Tower Christmas&#x27; because it evokes a sense of resilience and devotion. The historic water tower, built in 1869, stands as a testament to the city&#x27;s remarkable recovery from the devastating Great Chicago Fire of 1871. This symbol of old Chicago serves as a poignant reminder of the power of faith and perseverance.</p><p>As I gaze upon the Christmas tree in the public square, I&#x27;m struck by its significance. This evergreen symbol, adorned with a star or angel, represents the eternal and vibrant spirit of life. In contrast to the barren trees of winter, the Christmas tree embodies hope and renewal, reminding us that our existence is rooted in the promise of everlasting life.</p><p>The intersection of these symbols fills me with joy and a deep sense of connection to the scriptures. <p>Silhouetted Winter Trees at Dusk – Black and White</p><p>Sometimes there is more color from the black-and-white than the color photograph. For example, these silhouetted trees stand against a vibrant sunset. The sky glows with shades of orange and purple, creating a serene evening scene. <p>Dignity Is Lived, Not Just Spoken.<br>When considering the concept of dignity, it&#x27;s essential to explore its various interpretations. One approach is to examine what the Bible and God&#x27;s teachings have to say on the subject. In Matthew 25:35-40, Jesus emphasizes the importance of treating others with kindness and compassion, stating that when we care for those in need, we are ultimately serving Him.</p><p>Similarly, the Catechism of the Catholic Church highlights the inherent dignity of the human person, rooted in their creation in God&#x27;s image. This dignity is characterized by the right to freedom, which is inseparable from one&#x27;s inherent worth and nobility.</p><p>In simpler terms, dignity can be understood as the quality of being worthy of respect and esteem, and being treated with inherent value and worth.</p><p>As we approach a new year, it&#x27;s crucial to be mindful of dignity and its absence. We often lack dignity when we fail to treat others with the respect and kindness they deserve. <p>Measuring Up to Jesus </p><p>The other day when I was on Social Media a quote I saw from sales guru hit me: “You become what you think about all day long”. It made me ponder on what I think about every day, which lead me to realize how much my thinking – and lifestyle – has changed over the years.</p><p>I used to be more selfish, helping and serving others with the end motive of serving my own needs and ego, and praying for my own needs – talking to God more than listening. St. Francis says [that] it is through giving that we receive, and I took it literal.</p><p>Today … when I give of myself I don’t look for what I receive, because the real gift is how God is blessing others through me .. which I may never see. My agenda has become God’s agenda.
