Chicago Water Tower Christmas
I've titled this photograph 'City of Chicago Old Water Tower Christmas' because it evokes a sense of resilience and devotion. The historic water tower, built in 1869, stands as a testament to the city's remarkable recovery from the devastating Great Chicago Fire of 1871. This symbol of old Chicago serves as a poignant reminder of the power of faith and perseverance.
As I gaze upon the Christmas tree in the public square, I'm struck by its significance. This evergreen symbol, adorned with a star or angel, represents the eternal and vibrant spirit of life. In contrast to the barren trees of winter, the Christmas tree embodies hope and renewal, reminding us that our existence is rooted in the promise of everlasting life.
The intersection of these symbols fills me with joy and a deep sense of connection to the scriptures. Jesus' words in Matthew 11:28-30 come to mind: 'Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest.' His promise of rest and peace is a beacon of light in a world often consumed by chaos and uncertainty.

Silhouetted Winter Trees at Dusk – Black and White
Sometimes there is more color from the black-and-white than the color photograph. For example, these silhouetted trees stand against a vibrant sunset. The sky glows with shades of orange and purple, creating a serene evening scene. However, when you remove the color, you actually see the personality of the trees and the base of the story about this photograph.

Bird Dancing on the Line - Animal Photograph Copyright 2018 Frank J Casella
A Pigeon runs back and forth over the yellow safety line on a train platform in Chicago, Illinois.
In life, there are times when we need to draw the line if nothing else than for our own health and safety.
Whether it's the noise of the news media, or the internet in general, or politics, it's important to know where we stand or we'll fall for anything.
We build strong character and peace of mind when we stay on our side of the line that we draw for ourselves.
Enjoy your day.

Dignity Is Lived, Not Just Spoken.
When considering the concept of dignity, it's essential to explore its various interpretations. One approach is to examine what the Bible and God's teachings have to say on the subject. In Matthew 25:35-40, Jesus emphasizes the importance of treating others with kindness and compassion, stating that when we care for those in need, we are ultimately serving Him.
Similarly, the Catechism of the Catholic Church highlights the inherent dignity of the human person, rooted in their creation in God's image. This dignity is characterized by the right to freedom, which is inseparable from one's inherent worth and nobility.
In simpler terms, dignity can be understood as the quality of being worthy of respect and esteem, and being treated with inherent value and worth.
As we approach a new year, it's crucial to be mindful of dignity and its absence. We often lack dignity when we fail to treat others with the respect and kindness they deserve. Rather than blaming external factors, we have the power to hold and give dignity, which can lead to benefits such as confidence, success, respect, and integrity.
