<p>What are your favorite books on repairing things? <p>I'm trying to figure out the information for the Maricopa County New Hams Net. I know I can listen on 440.375 MHz at 7pm on Thursdays, but I don't seem to have any information on transmitting. </p><p>Looking for information online seems to bring up old web pages with different recieve frequencies. I got my information from a friend and was able to listen a few weeks ago, but not transmit. <p>I had dug out my boxes of tech supplies recently to show my kid stuff they could work with on the spare computer. And found the lost <a href="/tags/gmrs/" rel="tag">#GMRS</a> radios.</p><p>That caught their eye, and we were able to charge them. They’ve been listening to it on and off. Today I helped when they’d found a net. I was able to confirm it was a repeater setup, the reported cities were to far away. I then found out which repeater/net it was, and looked up the details to join.</p><p>$50-100/year, and they don’t want to spend the money to join.</p><p>I gently pushed for them to keep learning the <a href="/tags/hamradio/" rel="tag">#HamRadio</a> questions, and I’d pay any fees.</p>

<p>Following LP-sized pancakes at the North Pole in Newport on Saturday, our southeast Twin Cities metro ham radio club will administer tests at the church and then host a hidden-transmitter fox hunt.</p><p>Our club secretary thinks it'd be fun to dress up in fox suits. They're very popular.</p><p>I think we should get extra points, Field Day-style, for arriving on a horse, blowing a bugle, attracting press attention.</p><p>The ringleader of our fox hunt claims his girth affords 60dB attenuation, an important factor in radio direction-finding.</p><p>Here's a good introduction, and thorough:</p><p>'To the uninitiated, Fox Hunting may appear to be easy. <p>Experimental musicians with an amateur radio license, I wonder if we can organize a jam or a concert on the radio waves?</p><p>Not sure on the technical details, but I'd like to do it all "above board." <p>One of my favourite features of the <a href="/tags/fediverse/" rel="tag">#fediverse</a> is seeing people *learning things*. There are so many folks here discovering dying arts and trades. People learning how the things we take for granted work, and endeavouring to implement them themselves!</p><p>People getting their <a href="/tags/hamradio/" rel="tag">#HAMradio</a> licenses, <a href="/tags/selfhosting/" rel="tag">#selfhosting</a>, making clothing, blacksmithing, gardening, repairing their own things, backporting modern software to run on windows 3.11... </p><p>Y'all are my people. Never stop learning, and never stop sharing what you've learned.</p>
