Teaching net bag making at the first departmental Biodiversity Fair, a celebration of all the different cultures in biosciences. This was made slightly more complicated by my poorly thought out decision to put one hand out of action by getting henna'd.An event celebrating how valuable diversity is in our department feels very timely right now, and given that one of the organisers is American I suspect the choice of date was not coincidental.<a href="/tags/netmaking/" rel="tag">#NetMaking</a> <a href="/tags/heritagecrafts/" rel="tag">#HeritageCrafts</a> <a href="/tags/ancestralskills/" rel="tag">#AncestralSkills</a>

Me, a white woman in my forties. I have dark hair tied back to reveal and undercut, and am wearing glasses, a facemask, a rainbow lanyard and a short sleeved shirt with an arthropod print. I'm looking down at the work in my lap, the beginning of a net bag worked in a circle from the bottom.

Wheat straw solar cross. The central component is like a Bridget's Cross but symmetrical, surrounded by a braided straw wreath from which heads of wheat project like solar rays.
