<p>Some 4 million people in the U.S. could lose federal housing assistance under new plans from the Trump administration, say experts who reviewed drafts of two unpublished rules obtained by ProPublica.</p><p><a href="https://www.propublica.org/article/trump-housing-reforms-aid-hud-immigration-homelessness?utm_source=mastodon&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=mastodon-post" rel="nofollow" class="ellipsis" title="www.propublica.org/article/trump-housing-reforms-aid-hud-immigration-homelessness?utm_source=mastodon&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=mastodon-post"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">www.propublica.org/article/tru</span><span class="invisible">mp-housing-reforms-aid-hud-immigration-homelessness?utm_source=mastodon&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=mastodon-post</span></a></p><p><a href="/tags/news/" rel="tag">#News</a> <a href="/tags/trump/" rel="tag">#Trump</a> <a href="/tags/housing/" rel="tag">#Housing</a> <a href="/tags/poverty/" rel="tag">#Poverty</a> <a href="/tags/homelessness/" rel="tag">#Homelessness</a> <a href="/tags/homeless/" rel="tag">#Homeless</a> <a href="/tags/immigration/" rel="tag">#Immigration</a></p>

<p>After paying for hotel rooms to shelter homeless people, Seattle deliberately left them vacant.</p><p>By the end of 2024, taxpayers were spending $4,200 a month per empty room at a time when thousands of residents were without a roof over their heads.<br><a href="https://www.propublica.org/article/seattle-homeless-shelter-vacancies-civic-hotel?utm_source=mastodon&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=mastodon-post" rel="nofollow" class="ellipsis" title="www.propublica.org/article/seattle-homeless-shelter-vacancies-civic-hotel?utm_source=mastodon&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=mastodon-post"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">www.propublica.org/article/sea</span><span class="invisible">ttle-homeless-shelter-vacancies-civic-hotel?utm_source=mastodon&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=mastodon-post</span></a></p><p><a href="/tags/news/" rel="tag">#News</a> <a href="/tags/seattle/" rel="tag">#Seattle</a> <a href="/tags/washington/" rel="tag">#Washington</a> <a href="/tags/homeless/" rel="tag">#Homeless</a> <a href="/tags/housing/" rel="tag">#Housing</a> <a href="/tags/hotel/" rel="tag">#Hotel</a></p>
<p>aaaaaaand<br>setbacks and obstacles have been the theme of the month. I arrived in <a href="/tags/oklahoma/" rel="tag">#Oklahoma</a> a couple days ago. today I found out that my plan for housing has been altered radically. I was set to crash with a friend in a couple days, for a couple months, until I could be out on my own. They have changed their mind, citing anxiety. </p><p>so, I have twoish days to figure out how to avoid being <a href="/tags/homeless/" rel="tag">#homeless</a> in <a href="/tags/tulsa/" rel="tag">#Tulsa</a>. </p><p>This naturally means my employment plans, the jobs I had lined up, are now in the air as well. SHIT.</p><p>Which means the vehicle acquisition plans are also on hold. FUCK.</p><p>And, if I can't get something going fast enough, I can't stay medicated. This will exacerbate things. I don't know if I will survive that.</p>
<p>For years, a Phoenix nonprofit has run a mail room for thousands of homeless people, who use the address for job applications, for medication, to receive benefits like food stamp cards and even to vote.</p><p>Now the U.S. Postal Service is cutting its $24,000 investment, leaving the organization to raise the extra money to keep it open.<br><a href="https://www.propublica.org/article/phoenix-post-office-homelessness-funding-cuts?utm_source=mastodon&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=mastodon-post" rel="nofollow" class="ellipsis" title="www.propublica.org/article/phoenix-post-office-homelessness-funding-cuts?utm_source=mastodon&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=mastodon-post"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">www.propublica.org/article/pho</span><span class="invisible">enix-post-office-homelessness-funding-cuts?utm_source=mastodon&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=mastodon-post</span></a></p><p><a href="/tags/news/" rel="tag">#News</a> <a href="/tags/phoenix/" rel="tag">#Phoenix</a> <a href="/tags/arizona/" rel="tag">#Arizona</a> <a href="/tags/homeless/" rel="tag">#Homeless</a> <a href="/tags/usps/" rel="tag">#USPS</a> <a href="/tags/mail/" rel="tag">#Mail</a> <a href="/tags/nonprofit/" rel="tag">#Nonprofit</a></p>
<p>New York Homeless Families Placed in Hotels Weren’t Guaranteed Social Services. New Regulations Could Change That.<br>---</p><p>The proposal follows a ProPublica and New York Focus investigation that found counties had placed thousands of adults and children in often-dilapidated hotels as the main response to homelessness.<br><a href="https://www.propublica.org/article/new-york-homeless-families-hotels-update?utm_source=mastodon&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=mastodon-post" rel="nofollow" class="ellipsis" title="www.propublica.org/article/new-york-homeless-families-hotels-update?utm_source=mastodon&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=mastodon-post"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">www.propublica.org/article/new</span><span class="invisible">-york-homeless-families-hotels-update?utm_source=mastodon&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=mastodon-post</span></a></p><p><a href="/tags/news/" rel="tag">#News</a> <a href="/tags/newyork/" rel="tag">#NewYork</a> <a href="/tags/homeless/" rel="tag">#Homeless</a> <a href="/tags/hotels/" rel="tag">#Hotels</a> <a href="/tags/family/" rel="tag">#Family</a> <a href="/tags/homelessness/" rel="tag">#Homelessness</a></p>
