Mastodon is great. But littleFedi, snac, GoToSocial, Mitra, Akkoma, etc. - they all share a mission: make sure people will be able to self host their instances without investing a huge sum.

Listodon has been updated to #Mastodon v4.7.1
No issues, tho my routine notes have me doing a bundle install, yarn install --immutable, and RAILS_ENV=production bundle exec rails assets:precompile on every upgrade.
It seems that this simply required a bundle install this time...it seemed to work just fine, at least I see the updated version number when restarted.

I have decided to shut down my #mastodon instance, and all my public facing web services.
This will happen in 3 months time, on November 29, 2026, to allow everyone to backup and migrate.
The reason for this is that I can no longer trust:
- the #Linux kernel
- #Debian
- rails
- most #Foss projects
Additionally, I'm basically out of storage, it is unaffordable to purchase more, and no one is interested in donating to help.
Our bastion of free computing has been poisoned by fascist gen ai slop, and basically NONE of it can be trusted anymore.
It's impossible to vet slop from an ecosystem that is welcoming of it.
This makes it nearly impossible to update my systems, which makes it harder to pretend it's even remotely secure.
I'm fucking devestated - gutted by what has happened to computing, and I just do not have the resources to keep fighting.
Fuck all you #LLM boosters into the sun. May you learn the folly of your way and DO SOMETHING TO FIX IT!

I'm super late for my biannual re-#introduction post... Whoops! 😅
Anyway, I'm slanderoid. I'm just some guy from a tiny #rural village in Midwest, USA. I came to #Mastodon after #Twitter turned into a medical waste dumpster fire back in 2022. I'm turning 40 in a week and I feel weird about it 
I'm a #geek. (Or a #nerd, I'm not sure which.) I love #horror of all kinds. I used to play a lot of #VideoGames but not so much, lately. I'm more into #movies and #music at the moment. I love #books and I can often be found #reading something. My wife and I run a big #LittleFreeLibrary from our front lawn. We've got some big plans for it next year!

Your Mastodon account only lets you sign in on one server. However, because the servers talk to each other you can follow and interact with people from other servers.
It's a bit like mobile phone SIM cards: you can only use a SIM card to get service from one phone provider, but because phone providers talk to each other you can still call people who use totally different providers.

Hello (again), after a brief posting hiatus and a search for somewhere to migrate to, I am back on Mastodon! I've been on the fediverse since 2023 but grew tired of the mastodon.social experience and felt like it was time to spread my wings.
