Last month, job boards for actors were flooded with ads looking for people to record “conversations, character voices, and natural speech to help train AI systems," for a project by Microsoft. Payment was orders of magnitude more than a normal acting gig — up to $80,000, where a national ad campaign for a big brand might ordinarily pay $6,000. @404mediaco's Rosie Thomas spoke to voice actors about the "Faustian bargain" of accepting such roles. "You're still taking away tomorrow's meal because they're offering you a little bit more,” says Katie Clark Gray.

THE ODYSSEY
Just as expected, no surprises. Great production design and very well shot, Hollywoodised version of a sacred text. 70mm IMAX is an experience and definitely worth it. Robert Pattinson shines so brightly among all the other leads’ mediocre actings.

CAPE FEAR (1962 & 1991)
I like Scorsese, but this might be one of my least favourites of his. The 1962 version built the tension so good. Less is definitely more. The only better thing in 1991 was De Niro.

Tomorrow, October 1st, 2025 I'm starting the first edition of #Kaijuktober #Film Festival (#KFF)! During October, I'll be watching one #kaiju #movie every day. My plan for this year is to watch every movie from the #Toho #Showa era — around 25 movies. I'll probably be tooting about KFF daily instead of doing my usual weekly recap.

I start tomorrow with the original Godzilla (1954). Can't wait!

As a new year begins, let us ponder movies with different endings! This month, Susan's Cinema Stash will be showing the following films:

★ Clue (1985) - Based on the famous board game, different endings to the movie were famously shown in different theaters, giving everyone a different movie experience!

★ Harikrishnans - This film resolved a love triangle by showing different endings in different theaters! However, they only submitted one ending to the Central Board of Film Certification, thus embroiling the producers in legal battles.

★ 3 Ninjas (International Version) - This goofy action comedy was an entirely different experience if you watched it in America vs. the rest of the world when it came out.

★ Black Mirror: Bandersnatch - The famous interactive episode of this series where the audience will vote live on which paths we take!

Griffith Observatory has been in the movies from the beginning, even before it opened to the public in 1935. The Observatory played many roles in its first decades, but it was not cast as itself until it co-starred with movie icon #JamesDean in Rebel Without a Cause in 1955.
