Got the Blues so bad…
Over the recent weekend it was the Wotton Blues Festival, in Wotton under Edge. It’s a fantastic and free celebration of live blues and adjacent music, and one I look forward to.
This year, because of a few medical crises at chez bish I was unable to get to many of the gigs, but I did enjoy (part of) The Sons of the Delta in duo format. This shot is of Mark Cole in full voice, on the slide electric. In the background but way beyond the field of focus at f1.4 is the other member of the duo, Rick Edwards.
Photographing musicians is to seek out the magic of the sound without any audio. An odd idea at the best of times, but perhaps you can feel the energy. As much as it was a shot, it was a test of the Sony 85mm GM f1.4 fully open, and while it would have been nice to get Mark’s fingers in focus, the way it’s caught his open-mouthed profile and the microphone works very well for me.
