I live rurally and on disability, at the moment I can't afford to move back into the city and can't get a drivers license for another year. An ebike would help me travel to doctors, physical therapy + massage etc, get my own groceries and visit friends.</p><p>At the time I got ~$250 and I decided to wait a couple months to save up more for a model that fits my needs better, and get a better credit card for emergencies. <p>I'm looking to build out the Free Fridge & Community Pantries in my town.</p><p>I'll continue to update this thread with my progress.</p><p>So, the idea is to have nodes throughout town that allow folks to "Give a Food, Take a Food". Similar to "Little Free Libraries" are to books. Folks who have extra food can drop it off there, folks who need food can grab it there.</p><p>The focus here is mutual aid, not charity. So, absolutely, if you are food insecure or hungry, utilize it, right. Beyond that though, this is a great piece of infrastructure to share extra food with your neighbors. I will go down to the free fridge we have in town, drop off some of my extra produce that I have grown, and then pick up a can of black beans if I need it for dinner that night. We're meant to contribute AND utilize the free fridge.</p><p>There are many ways to create and maintain free fridges, from something as simple as a small box or outdoor cabinet on up to full stand up refrigerators and freezers with an outdoor pantry.</p><p>In general, you want it to be a couple of things:<br>- Accessible to the public<br>- 24 hours a day, 7 days a week<br>- Unmanned<br>- No restrictions on who can utilize it or take food from it - it should NOT employ any means-testing<br>- Receive shelf stable food and/or refrigerated food and/or frozen food</p><p>Further, you can break up the different groups that are involved in the free fridge:<br>- The Host<br>- The Maintainers<br>- The Community</p><p>The Host - provides a location for the fridge and pantry to be installed and accessed. They also provide electricity to power the fridge/freezer</p><p>The Maintainers - this would be my group. We source, install, maintain, repair, and clean the fridge, freezer, and pantry.</p><p>The Community - contributes food to and utilizes food from the fridge and pantry. This is important. While the host provides the site and the Maintainers keep it operational, neither one has to stock food or coordinate utilization. The community does it themselves.</p><p>Having it split up like this is nice. Can folks from the Host group maintain it? Certainly. But extrapolating it allows for ease of use.</p><p>So. Keeping it stocked is up to the community. I've seen it stocked by gardeners who have extra produce (Zucchini turns folks into socialists is the joke! You just grow sooooo much you end up LOSING FRIENDS when you try to push it off on others!). I've seen it stocked through Food Rescue efforts. Some families buy extra from the grocery store and this is a great place to drop it off. I've even seen the local Food Bank drop off extra food when they had left overs from a food distribution.</p><p>Keeping it utilized is also easy. You don't want the fridge to stay stocked, right. You want it to stay in the fridge for as short a period of time as possible before someone comes and grabs it. Heck! I've seen a food rescue of fresh produce from a farmer's market vendor be dropped off at a free fridge and then claimed by several families even before it had a chance to be placed physically into the fridge! This is ideal. One fridge and pantry needs to serve the local neighborhood. That's many many families. The bag of rice is gone, half our beans are gone, the ramens are nearly depleted. We could really use some help getting through this difficult time. Urgent mutual aid request

<p>Still mentally unfit, but I'll try...</p><p>Used as a money printing scheme, I was evicted from my previous homeshare where I had a basement suite into this one inside a 2.5m x 2.5m bedroom, where my Govt money was used to fund the landlords to have a baby. The baby is now born & it means insane amounts of me time that I can't interrupt. This also means no food is prepared when nursing is more important.</p><p>My friend tried to get a Toyota Corolla to help but he needs a $250 alternator. Unfortunately he's also being loan sharked by his peers at the moment.</p><p>My roommate was evicted over not being correctly monitored for his medication changes, for which my landlords don't know what mental health means & kept calling 911.</p><p>Please give. Okay. Desperate times call for desperate measures.
<p>I realize the staggering audacity of me asking this considering I was literally just saying within the past day or two that I wouldn't want to place the onus on anyone to be a <a href="/tags/guarantor/" rel="tag">#guarantor</a> or co-signer for us on an apartment and potentially leave them liable for my debts in case I was disabled/fired/died/etc.</p><p>I think I also said it because I don't really think anyone who is *able* to co-sign safely would be *willing* to for us.</p><p>After all, I have zero proof of ability to pay -- I have a CSV file with a list of <a href="/tags/venmo/" rel="tag">#venmo</a> transactions to the hotel we were at for nine months, which total substantially more than wages I earned for that same period because most of that was covered by <a href="/tags/mutualaid/" rel="tag">#MutualAid</a> from the pockets of fellow Fediverse users.</p><p>Then there's the shame of it all -- our own families refuse to co-sign for us on anything at all. Understandably so. We both have a horrible track record.</p><p>Not to mention countless others are in much more dire circumstances than us and can manage their lives without constant panhandling to exist.</p><p>How can I expect a complete stranger to blindly co-sign someone who has very clearly indicated they're unreliable for paying bills? I could be a scammer. I could be a Nigerian prince. I could even be AI. I could be the ghost of Margaret Thatcher, and you'd have simply no idea.</p><p>If I had money, would I co-sign on an apartment for a perfect stranger with whom I'd interacted solely online? Probably not.</p><p>Whatever.</p><p>Clownish antics aside, ultimately I'm just tired. So very, very tired.</p><p>I'm tired of my <a href="/tags/mentalillness/" rel="tag">#MentalIllness</a> interfering with everything. I'm tired of not being able to care for my family.</p><p>I'm tired of seeing my partner tremble with fear of whether we'll be living out of our car just in time for the Gestapo to start rounding up the <a href="/tags/homeless/" rel="tag">#homeless</a>.</p><p>I'm tired of hotels and tyrant hotel managers. I'm tired of not knowing whether we have a place to live from day to day.</p><p>I'm tired of not having any goddamned hot water.</p><p>I know there is so much ugliness in this world and I'm being incredibly myopic about my own petty concerns, but in all fairness I'm *always* incredibly myopic with my own concerns. (It's not something I'm proud of, it just.. is)</p><p>So.. Another day, another housing #MutualAidRequest ($495/$700)
<p>Hello, my friends.</p><p>I've stared at this screen for five minutes trying to figure out how to write this.</p><p>It's getting to the point where the thought of having to write yet another begpost (especially one of such an amount, again) makes my skin crawl.</p><p>But I must do this because I need to everything I can to keep my family safe.</p><p>My only hope for ceasing this constant digital panhandling is a promotion at work that I really, really need. My family desperately needs an income increase.</p><p>Yet my only hope for that promotion is rest, and my only hope for rest is to be safely housed.</p><p>Realistically, no one is going to co-sign on an apartment for a total stranger so my only practical option right now is to continue staying in hotels.</p><p>Our most reasonable option for a hotel is impractical if we don't pay several days at a time.</p><p>So.. I'm attempting to raise funds for a week's stay at said hotel, and to cover a haircut and beard trim so I look presentable at work.</p><p>Goddammit I hate doing this. <p>Recently was let go from my 3rd job this year.
