Autumn continues its sweep through the Arctic Circle Hiking Area just outside Rovaniemi. Returning today to explore the Pikkurompa trail offered another front-row seat to the season's changes, from the golden birch trees along the mire to all the mushrooms, rowan leaves, and small details along the forest floor.

Visiting the local patch this evening to find some inner peace. Sat down the edge of a field of reed, watching some bumblebees. Looking up I met de eye of a female reed bunting, calmly sitting in the reed.

We recently visited the #BristleconePines within #InyoNationalForest in the #WhiteMountains of Eastern #California. While there we took a five hour hike on the Methuselah Trail amongst some of the oldest trees in the world!

Golden Thistle

With good light quality you can take a subject that might be dull and un-interesting and turn it into an object of beauty. That is what I hoped to accomplish in this image. I really like how the light on the dried up thistle make the little tufts shine and sparkle.

Eleven Swallow-Tailed Kites roosted in a local dead pine tree overnight--and we got to watch them wake-up and get ready for work! 🙂

When they fly they remind me of giant black and white butterflies.
