When I finally got around to reading the book, I was shocked to see how much more sense it made than the film ever did. Only later did I learn about how both were made simultaneously, but not in-sync. If you enjoyed the film, but were always wondering "WTF is going on", the books make it a lot more clear and really filly in the gaps.

I'm a child of the 80s. I don't care what others have said, this book was straight up awesome and amazing. It's another one of those that I keep coming back to time and time again! Just, forget the movie. Pretend it doesn't exist. Just read the book. A few times.
