Santa Fe’s new mayor was summoned to the meeting by a <a href="/tags/newmexico/" rel="tag">#NewMexico</a> state legislator in attendance. This led to me having to supply the meeting with an impromptu presentation on First Amendment law and why the City of Santa Fe cannot lawfully charge ISF $25,000+ for a closed streets permit for <a href="/tags/nokings/" rel="tag">#NoKings</a> on March 28. 1/</p>

<p>Theater District, Manhattan - 7th Avenue at 53rd Street</p><p>It’s wild to see a 10+ block view clear of traffic south to Times Square. The protest march is right behind me. <p>It’s hard to shoot while carrying a spine, so I have the bare minimum from <a href="/tags/nokings/" rel="tag">#NoKings</a> in San Jose yesterday, but here are a few.</p><p>Attendance held steady from the last one, but the energy was higher. I can project vocally and I’ll turn the volume up to 11 when the chant leader is having trouble getting people to join in. I only had to do that once at the very start yesterday.</p><p>The makeup of the crowd was different too. There were a lot more Persians there or at least they were more noticeable because most of them were carrying the pre-1979 Sun Lion Iranian flag.</p><p>That’s important because Iranian expats are in a confusing space. Most of them have no love for the current government and have to thread the needle of protesting the war without supporting the Islamic Republic of Iran or “the fucking mullahs” as some of them might say.</p><p>There were even a few people carrying Islamic Republic of Iran flags. You wouldn’t typically see those people around the ones carrying Sun Lion flags.</p><p>The coalition is growing.</p>
