Dear friends/followers/the fedi at large,
Today seems to be the last big day of Pride Month and I thought I would use this opportunity to say some things.
I have been doing a lot of thinking, reading, and self reflection and made a discovery about myself, and it all started with a simple, what I can only assume was, off-handed remark about me (to someone else): "He sure as hell ain't straight, no matter what he says"
For the last 39 years I have identified as a cis-het man. I'm still a cis-man, but "het" is not accurate. Reflecting on my past experiences, I've *clearly* never been straight. But I denied it.
Even when, as a kid, I experimented with a neighborhood boy, I told myself "I'm still attracted to girls, so I'm clearly not gay."
And it was true. I was not gay. Or straight.
I am bi.
Up until recently, I thought being bisexual meant equal attraction to girls and boys. I was wrong. I read about the modern definition, people's experiences, and other things to realize it isn't as simple as that.
My mind opened.
Happy Pride to everyone!
For my found community

Reading about what happened during last night's #CSD here in #Berlin and getting increasingly mad about Merz's and the mayor's weasel words. With their constant divisive, dehumanizing AfD-flavoured fabrications, they're personally responsible for Germany and Berlin's societal distrust.
And now, one person has died. But because this is (poss.) a queer person, and the (poss.) perpetrator is a brown Muslim, nothing will change. More votes for the AfD. Down we go.
There's some shit happening in Santa Cruz & I'm trying my damndest to throw fuel on it... that is to say, I'm organizing a boycott & I need your help
also if you're the kind of person who's prone to say things like "you're overreacting" scroll all the way away, kid

No matter where you look in our project, you'll find LGBTQIA+ people. We are lucky to have so many fantastic queer contributors.
We stand with you, especially in today's divided world.
Intersex pride.
Of all the letters in LGBTQI, I think Intersex people are unique in that we often get added to the rainbow by society as soon as we are born, and unlike other queer people, our families often "know" about us long before we do.
There is a conspiracy of silence to stop intersex kids from knowing about themselves. The reason "normalizing" surgery is done early in life is precisely because the event will not be remembered. In my case, my earliest memory is recovering from such surgery. It took decades to understand what that fragmentary memory was.
Unlike the other letters of LGBTQI, intersex conditions often come with significant medical concerns. Amongst other issues, I had an endocrine crisis leading to severe arthritis in my early years. But my doctors were so intent on bolstering my normalized identity, they could not acknowledge or treat the problem. Ultimately, I accidentally fixed myself by starting hormone therapy as part of gender affirming care.
The origin of this medical and social control is the 1950s era anxiety that if the child has an "abnormal" body, they will grow up gay. As bizarre as it may seem, the pathologization of intersex and the resulting nonconsensual and deceptive treatments are a form of "queer prevention" therapy.
Intersex pride is about acknowledging that bodily diversity is the real normal. Intersex pride is about demanding treatment for the real health issues and an end for nonconsensual cosmetic treatments. Intersex pride is about resisting the identity policing and secrecy that society deems "good for us".
Just a note to everyone - Pride Month is no excuse to use generative AI to make "happy PRIDE" posts, merch, or any image or text related to it.
Generative AI is funded by facists who hate LGBTQAI+ and who fund laws against us. It is the tool of the enemy we all should resist together - not generate useless slop that muddies the message with AI vomit.
Using it shows no care, no love, and no solidarity.
Happy Pride Month!

Land of Action, the initiative I launched to support grassroots progressive groups across #NewMexico, will be at #SantaFe #Pride festival on 6/27. We want to distribute literature introducing LoA and its work on free and fair elections this November. https://landofaction.org
I need to do a little fundraising to make this possible. Here’s my kofi link https://ko-fi.com/heidi36465. Donations of any size would help. Aiming for $500.
Samples of what we want to hand out are in the following posts! 1/

As Pride 2026 winds down, let's not forget that Pride doesn't end in June—Pride is every day. Right now, there is one group in the LGBTQ+ community that is under attack every single day strictly for political gain.
The LGBTQ+ community and our allies need to stand alongside transgender people in their fight for equality and remind the world that transgender people are people. It's that simple.

AGED FIVE, I GOT FAR ENOUGH
AWAY TO SEE 💎
When I was about five years old, I spent two years in a children’s sanatorium.
At the time, I had no idea what that would mean for the rest of my life. Looking back now, I think it was one of the great turning points of my childhood.
And strangely enough, I am grateful for it.
For two years, I was removed from my family and placed somewhere else entirely. Other adults. Other children. Other routines. Other ways of being. It gave me something I could not possibly have named at five.
DISTANCE.
When I eventually returned home, I had already discovered something enormously important. My family was not the whole world. I could stand outside it and see it.
And what I saw, increasingly, was that there was very little about my family that felt real or loving. In fact, I think I experienced more genuine warmth with some of the nurses and children at the sanatorium than I ever did at home. There was family in the biological sense. But I don’t think there was much family in the deeper sense at all.
Years later, at about fifteen, I told my parents I was homosexual.
That was the end of home.
I didn’t leave after a teenage argument and come back a few weeks later. There was nowhere to come back to. I had left because I had to. And when I left, it was over.
I sometimes watch films about people who grow up in brutal, loveless families and later become terribly damaged adults. Psychopaths. Serial killers. People whose childhoods seem almost designed to produce catastrophe. And occasionally I recognise something.
NOT WHAT THEY BECAME.
The beginning. The absence. The emotional coldness. And the fear. The strange knowledge, very young, that whatever happened next, you were largely on your own.
There was my sister.
For a long time, I think I allowed myself to believe that because she was still there, some part of the family remained. But even that relationship eventually forced me to look again. Sometimes the hardest thing is not losing a family. It is realising that what you thought you had may never really have been there. And yet something else was there.
Some capacity to stand outside it. To see it without having to pretend it was something else. Perhaps that began in the sanatorium. At five years old, without knowing it, I got far enough away to see. I learned that the family I had been born into was not the measure of reality.
And for that, strangely enough, I am truly grateful.
