Und davon wie schnell die Technik, die uns ermächtigt und vernetzt, zum Mittel der Überwachung und Unterdrückung werden kann. Dabei macht Doctorow Mut mit den Mitteln der Technik für die Demokratie zu kämpfen. <a href="/tags/bücherwabe/" rel="tag">#bücherwabe</a> <a href="/tags/chemnitz/" rel="tag">#chemnitz</a> <a href="/tags/bücher/" rel="tag">#bücher</a> <a href="/tags/literatur/" rel="tag">#literatur</a> <a href="/tags/lesen/" rel="tag">#lesen</a> <a href="/tags/books/" rel="tag">#books</a> <a href="/tags/literature/" rel="tag">#literature</a> <a href="/tags/bookstodon/" rel="tag">#bookstodon</a> <a href="/tags/scifi/" rel="tag">#scifi</a> <a href="/tags/politik/" rel="tag">#politik</a> <a href="/tags/politics/" rel="tag">#politics</a></p>

<p>On this day in 1938, BBC Television aired the first science fiction TV program, an adaptation of a section of the Karel Čapek play R.U.R.. This play is also famous for coining the term "robot" from robota, or "forced labor", derived from "rab", meaning "slave".</p><p>Article from 2016: <a href="https://www.smithsonianmag.com/smart-news/78-years-ago-today-bbc-aired-first-science-fiction-television-program-180958126/" rel="nofollow" class="ellipsis" title="www.smithsonianmag.com/smart-news/78-years-ago-today-bbc-aired-first-science-fiction-television-program-180958126/"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">www.smithsonianmag.com/smart-n</span><span class="invisible">ews/78-years-ago-today-bbc-aired-first-science-fiction-television-program-180958126/</span></a></p><p>More about the play: <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/R.U.R" rel="nofollow"><span class="invisible">https://</span>en.wikipedia.org/wiki/R.U.R</a>.</p><p><a href="/tags/otd/" rel="tag">#OTD</a> <a href="/tags/onthisday/" rel="tag">#OnThisDay</a> <a href="/tags/history/" rel="tag">#history</a> <a href="/tags/scifi/" rel="tag">#scifi</a> <a href="/tags/robots/" rel="tag">#robots</a></p>

<p>Happy to announce that my short story "Virus Alert" has been published on Every Day Fiction! Just a very short tale about the monsters we create. This one has been kicking around since the W Bush era, so I'm really glad it finally found a home, and in these times of pandemic and paranoia, I feel like it still has a lot of relevance. Why not give it a read? It's not like the government is monitoring you or anything... <a href="https://everydayfiction.com/virus-alert-xauriel-zwaan/" rel="nofollow" class="ellipsis" title="everydayfiction.com/virus-alert-xauriel-zwaan/"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">everydayfiction.com/virus-aler</span><span class="invisible">t-xauriel-zwaan/</span></a><br><a href="/tags/fiction/" rel="tag">#fiction</a> <a href="/tags/sciencefiction/" rel="tag">#ScienceFiction</a> <a href="/tags/scifi/" rel="tag">#scifi</a> <a href="/tags/flashfiction/" rel="tag">#FlashFiction</a></p>

It suddenly struck me the other day that generative AI used in government and media has a very Memoirs Found in a Bathtub quality about it. One of the premises of Lem's (amazing) novel is that paper disintegrates for unknown reasons, leaving very few hard records of anything. The book is a mock diary of a person who lived through the disorienting chaos that ensued.<br><br><a href="/tags/ai/" rel="tag">#AI</a> <a href="/tags/genai/" rel="tag">#GenAI</a> <a href="/tags/generativeai/" rel="tag">#GenerativeAI</a> <a href="/tags/llm/" rel="tag">#LLM</a> <a href="/tags/tech/" rel="tag">#tech</a> <a href="/tags/dev/" rel="tag">#dev</a> <a href="/tags/stanislawlem/" rel="tag">#StanislawLem</a> <a href="/tags/fiction/" rel="tag">#fiction</a> <a href="/tags/scifi/" rel="tag">#SciFi</a> <a href="/tags/sciencefiction/" rel="tag">#ScienceFiction</a> <a href="/tags/cybernetics/" rel="tag">#cybernetics</a><br>
