<p>Some interesting insights from the 2024 <span class="h-card"><a href="https://mastodon.iftas.org/@iftas" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>iftas</span></a></span> Fediverse Trust & Safety Needs Assessment Report.</p><p>- most communities operate on donations<br>- very few moderators receiving compensation<br>- roughly 1 moderator for every 1,200 active accounts<br>- only 16% of communities have 24–hour moderator coverage<br>- nearly 1/2 of moderator teams lack formal guidance<br>- 1 in 5 moderators report experiencing trauma or burnout this year</p><p><a href="https://about.iftas.org/2024/12/17/the-2024-iftas-needs-assessment-report-is-here/" rel="nofollow" class="ellipsis" title="about.iftas.org/2024/12/17/the-2024-iftas-needs-assessment-report-is-here/"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">about.iftas.org/2024/12/17/the</span><span class="invisible">-2024-iftas-needs-assessment-report-is-here/</span></a></p><p><a href="/tags/fediverse/" rel="tag">#fediverse</a> <a href="/tags/fediadmin/" rel="tag">#FediAdmin</a> <a href="/tags/mastoadmin/" rel="tag">#MastoAdmin</a> <a href="/tags/iftas/" rel="tag">#IFTAS</a> <a href="/tags/trustandsafety/" rel="tag">#TrustAndSafety</a></p>
<p>Okay it’s probably obvious/I’m over-thinking it, but I really like that every word in the <span class="h-card"><a href="['https://bsky.brid.gy/r/https://bsky.app/profile/roost.tools', 'https://roost.tools/']" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>roost.tools</span></a></span> acronym carries weight.</p><p>Here’s what ROOST stands for: (🧵)</p><p><a href="/tags/roost/" rel="tag">#ROOST</a> <a href="/tags/trustandsafety/" rel="tag">#TrustAndSafety</a> <a href="/tags/opensource/" rel="tag">#OpenSource</a></p>

<p>Disinfo campaigns, coordinated abuse, spam - they don’t stop at one instance. In IFTAS Connect, moderators and community managers share alerts across the network. </p><p>Early warning means stronger resilience. Shared knowledge means less stress.</p><p><a href="https://connect.iftas.org/forums/" rel="nofollow"><span class="invisible">https://</span>connect.iftas.org/forums/</a></p><p><a href="/tags/fedimods/" rel="tag">#FediMods</a> <a href="/tags/digitalthreats/" rel="tag">#DigitalThreats</a> <a href="/tags/trustandsafety/" rel="tag">#TrustAndSafety</a></p>
<p>I’m still learning a lot at <span class="h-card"><a href="['https://bsky.brid.gy/r/https://bsky.app/profile/roost.tools', 'https://roost.tools/']" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>roost.tools</span></a></span> but I’m at the point where I want to start talking to the folks in my circles and beyond who could benefit from open source trust and safety tools.</p><p>I will probably get some sort of form/survey set up for a bit more formal, but for now: if you build, operate, or contribute to an online platform or service where people interact (and you’re not already familiar with ROOST), I would love to talk to you!</p><p><a href="/tags/trustandsafety/" rel="tag">#TrustAndSafety</a> <a href="/tags/opensource/" rel="tag">#OpenSource</a></p>
