<p>An abandoned pottery factory, somewhere in <a href="/tags/france/" rel="tag">#France</a></p><p>The small French <a href="/tags/pottery/" rel="tag">#pottery</a> works thrived for decades. It remained modest, while competitors expanded and modernised. While this gives the <a href="/tags/ruins/" rel="tag">#ruins</a> a quaint charm, it was certainly a major factor in their closure!</p><p>Inside, the upper floors have long rows of wooden racks stacked with 100s of moulds. <p>🍓Move over James & The Giant Peach, this is Janine & The Oversized Strawberry! </p><p>Languishing in a disused field in <a href="/tags/poland/" rel="tag">#Poland</a> this sun-faded behemoth fruit was once a kind of roadside attraction for a large strawberry farm. The owner clearly had some quirky marketing ideas. The farm closed long ago, but this sad-looking giant strawberry lies forgotten in a weed-choked field.</p><p>Also, does anyone else think this has some serious <a href="/tags/fallout/" rel="tag">#Fallout</a> vibes? </p><p><a href="/tags/photography/" rel="tag">#Photography</a> <a href="/tags/poland/" rel="tag">#Poland</a> <a href="/tags/abandoned/" rel="tag">#Abandoned</a> <a href="/tags/urbex/" rel="tag">#Urbex</a> <a href="/tags/strawberry/" rel="tag">#Strawberry</a></p>
<p>Doftana Prison, Romania. This vast fortress-like penitentiary has housed inmates during some of the most turbulent periods in Romania’s history. Today, it stands derelict and collapsing, a haunting reminder of the terrible conditions offenders were once incarcerated in. </p><p>More history and photos from my visit - <a href="https://www.obsidianurbexphotography.com/military/doftana-prison-romania/" rel="nofollow" class="ellipsis" title="www.obsidianurbexphotography.com/military/doftana-prison-romania/"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">www.obsidianurbexphotography.c</span><span class="invisible">om/military/doftana-prison-romania/</span></a> </p><p><a href="/tags/romania/" rel="tag">#Romania</a> <a href="/tags/history/" rel="tag">#History</a> <a href="/tags/ruins/" rel="tag">#Ruins</a> <a href="/tags/phorography/" rel="tag">#Phorography</a> <a href="/tags/doftana/" rel="tag">#Doftana</a> <a href="/tags/urbanexploration/" rel="tag">#UrbanExploration</a> <a href="/tags/urbex/" rel="tag">#Urbex</a> <a href="/tags/explore/" rel="tag">#Explore</a> <a href="/tags/dark/" rel="tag">#Dark</a> <a href="/tags/darktourism/" rel="tag">#DarkTourism</a> <a href="/tags/prison/" rel="tag">#Prison</a> <a href="/tags/jail/" rel="tag">#Jail</a></p>
<p>An abandoned former military base in East Germany</p><p>After 1945, Soviet forces converted the old German base into a closed military town. By the 1970s, around 75,000 soldiers and families lived here. It was abandoned in the mid-1990s.</p><p>Many relics of the Soviet occupation remain. A statue of Lenin stands near the entrance. There is also a large theatre, a decaying swimming pool and a ballroom. Murals decorate walls and corridors.</p><p><a href="/tags/germany/" rel="tag">#Germany</a> <a href="/tags/soviet/" rel="tag">#Soviet</a> <a href="/tags/photography/" rel="tag">#Photography</a> <a href="/tags/history/" rel="tag">#History</a> <a href="/tags/lostplace/" rel="tag">#LostPlace</a> <a href="/tags/abandoned/" rel="tag">#Abandoned</a> <a href="/tags/urbex/" rel="tag">#Urbex</a></p>

<p>A once-grand synagogue, converted into a swimming pool. Now abandoned and decaying. Somewhere in Poland.</p><p>Built at the start of the 20th century, this Polish synagogue was stripped and desecrated by Nazi forces, who converted it into a swimming pool for soldiers.</p><p>It remained a community pool for 50 years post-war. Now privately owned and hollowed out by a 2023 fire, the building stands as a sad ruin. </p><p><a href="/tags/poland/" rel="tag">#Poland</a> <a href="/tags/history/" rel="tag">#History</a> <a href="/tags/holocaust/" rel="tag">#Holocaust</a> <a href="/tags/abandonedplaces/" rel="tag">#AbandonedPlaces</a> <a href="/tags/urbex/" rel="tag">#Urbex</a> <a href="/tags/urbanexploration/" rel="tag">#UrbanExploration</a> <a href="/tags/ruins/" rel="tag">#Ruins</a> <a href="/tags/lostplace/" rel="tag">#LostPlace</a></p>

<p>⏳ Times up. Sadly, this historical place is about to disappear forever.</p><p>Demolition work is underway on the site, progressing steadily at this 1940s aircraft research facility. Once at the cutting edge of aerodynamics R&D, the site's 8x8ft supersonic tunnel tested flight components at Mach 2.5.</p><p>Already the smaller 3x3 tunnel facility and control room have been levelled; this one looks to be set to be next.</p><p><a href="/tags/aerodynamics/" rel="tag">#Aerodynamics</a> <a href="/tags/history/" rel="tag">#History</a> <a href="/tags/coldwar/" rel="tag">#ColdWar</a> <a href="/tags/england/" rel="tag">#England</a> <a href="/tags/abandoned/" rel="tag">#Abandoned</a> <a href="/tags/urbanexploration/" rel="tag">#UrbanExploration</a> <a href="/tags/urbex/" rel="tag">#Urbex</a></p>
<p>⛪An abandoned church hall, later used as a nightclub. Somewhere in England.</p><p>Built in 1903 as a Methodist Central Hall, before its 1990s rebirth as a nightclub. It was a legendary rave venue for two decades.</p><p>The building’s history hasn't been without tragedy. It was the site of several fatalities: a fatal fall from the clock tower in the 90s, a murder outside the venue, and a drug-related death in the 2000s.</p><p><a href="/tags/england/" rel="tag">#England</a> <a href="/tags/history/" rel="tag">#History</a> <a href="/tags/buildingsatrisk/" rel="tag">#BuildingsAtRisk</a> <a href="/tags/photography/" rel="tag">#Photography</a> <a href="/tags/abandoned/" rel="tag">#Abandoned</a> <a href="/tags/urbex/" rel="tag">#Urbex</a> <a href="/tags/church/" rel="tag">#Church</a> <a href="/tags/nightclub/" rel="tag">#Nightclub</a></p>
