Without weighing in on the electoral politics of the situation, I think it's worth registering that Graham Platner receives press coverage suggesting he's a left-leaning, progressive politician, yet in his personal life his actions are consistent with a far-right sensibility. Similar comments apply to Gavin Newsom. If you're into voting for blue-tinted rightwingers and you like to call them Democrats that's up to you, but call a spade a spade eh?

Crazy how people get onto news broadcasts and parse their words, saying things like what I just heard a Congress member say — that
Trump "seems to be" starting wars everywhere (which is on par for them calling the Department of Defense the Department of War).
SEEMS to be? What is that? Call a spade a spade. That is EXACTLY what the Admin is doing. If there is not outrage about this, he will continue these actions EVERYWHERE he can.
To describe a political decision as mad or insane is to suggest that it is fundamentally irrational—opaque, inexplicable, governed by impulse rather than structure. The effect is to foreclose understanding. Political violence and authoritarian manoeuvres are reduced to personal pathology, and the economic, ideological, and institutional logics that enable them fade into the background.
Here, then, the language of insanity performs an ideological function. It reassures us that what we are witnessing is accidental, the result of a uniquely deranged individual, rather than symptomatic of deeper structural crises.

I realize he speaks mostly theatrically, but when Pete Hegseth says of Iran "We will continue operations until we stop these savages threatening U.S. interests", we need to pay attention to his use of the word "savage".
That word has a long, nasty history in the mouths of US officials. It can mean, and has often meant, this: a people who control resources but who do not put those resources to what are considered "productive" purposes by a would-be colonizer. The indigenous peoples of the North American continent were called savages in this specific sense, which led to "legal" justification for taking their land and other resources from them (obviously they were called this word for many reasons, but this is one of those reasons). Even if he's not aware of it or purposely doing so I think Hegseth is channeling this history when he uses that particular word. I think the tell is that he's suggesting there are "savages" that threaten "US interests", i.e. resources the US claims ownership of.
