Set during Christmas 1988, Lol is haunted by the devastating events that took place two and a half years before. 1983年11月21日，莱斯特郡乡间的那柏如（Narborough）15岁的女孩琳达·曼恩（Lynda Mann）出门前往拜访朋友而没有回家，隔天早上被人发现遭受强奸并勒死在一条小马路上。当时的鉴识科学技术发现，于受害者身上所收集到的精液样本显示加害者为A型血，另外根据酵素图谱（enzyme profile），发现约有10%的男性为嫌疑犯。在没有进一步证据下，无法定案。
到了1986年7月31日，另一位15岁的女孩唐·艾希渥斯（Dawn Ashworth），被发现于一块靠近马路的近林地中。且同样遭受强奸勒毙，根据作案方式及现场遗留的样本血型研判，此案件与1983年的案件相符。当地一位17岁的少年理查·巴克兰（Richard Buckland）成为嫌疑犯，他在质问中显露出对于唐·艾希渥斯的身体知识，并承认犯下后项罪行，但却否认杀害琳达·曼恩。
