Margaret Cho: I'm the One That I Want
director: Lionel Coleman actor: 赵牡丹
other title: Margaret Cho: I'm the One That I Want
November, 1999, Margaret Cho is home in San Francisco at the Warfield Theater. Cho structures her monologue loosely on her professional life's trajectory: doing stand-up, cast in an ABC-TV sitcom, losing 30 pounds in two weeks for the part, the show's cancellation, a descent into booze, pills, and self-loathing, and a resurrection into her own voice, her own shape, and being the one she wants. Along the way we visit Karl Langerfeld in jail, a lesbian cruise ship, a TV Guide photo shoot, a hospital, bars, and her family's Polk Street bookshop. Takes on being a fag hag, speeding up felatio, casual daily racism, and her mother's phone messages highlight a scabrous, brilliant performance.

Margaret Cho: Notorious C.H.O.
director: Lorene Machado actor: Margaret Cho
other title: Margaret Cho: Notorious C.H.O.
Trash-talkin' comedian Margaret Cho, famous for her one-woman shows, her tough but also feminine image, and her awareness of social issues, returns to the screen in NOTORIOUS C.H.O. THE MOVIE, directed by Lorene Machado. This follow-up to Cho's successful 2000 show I'M THE ONE THAT I WANT continues to test the boundaries of irreverent humor while raunchily celebrating the explicit personal anecdotes of its star. Cho fearlessly tackles a wide variety of issues with equal parts sarcasm, heart, and pride. Nothing is sacred. She takes the audience on a wild ride that includes colonics, fisting, and sexual fetishes and revisits some of her favorite topics including gay rights, body image, and self-esteem issues. Cho revels in facial expressions, and fans of Cho will remember her riotous impression of her traditional Korean mother (whom viewers finally get to meet!) In NOTORIOUS, she continues to use her cartoonish expressions to remark on and highlight her candid humor with hysterical results. Cho has an uncanny ability to celebrate diversity, she is a self-proclaimed "fag-hag, Korean-American, bisexual", with biting humor and very little sentimentality. NOTORIOUS C.H.O., which takes its title and inspiration from the fearless ladies of hip hop (think Lil' Kim), once again proves that Cho is a first-rate comedian who ranks up there with Sandra Bernhard, Richard Pryor, or George Carlin.

American Masters - Mae West: Dirty Blonde
director: Julia Marchesi / Sally Rosenthal actor: Jim Bailey / Gina Barreca
other title: 美国大师:梅·韦斯特 / 梅·韦斯特:金发荡妇
Mae West achieved great acclaim in every entertainment medium that existed during her lifetime, spanning eight decades of the 20th century. A full-time actress at seven, a vaudevillian at 14, a dancing sensation at 25, a Broadway playwright at 33, a silver screen ingénue at 40, a Vegas nightclub act at 62, a recording artist at 73, a camp icon at 85 - West left no format unconquered. She possessed creative and economic powers unheard of for a female entertainer in the 1930's and still rare today. Though she was a comedian, West grappled with some of the more complex social issues of the 20th century, including race and class tensions, and imbued even her most salacious plot lines with commentary about gender conformity, societal restrictions and what she perceived as moral hypocrisy. American Masters - Mae West: Dirty Blonde is the first major documentary film to explore West's life and career, as she "climbed the ladder of success rung by rung" to become a writer, performer and subversive agitator for social change. Produced and directed by Sally Rosenthal and Julia Marchesi.

Learning to love her luscious self over the past forty years, comedian Margaret Cho realized that the eye of the beholder doesn't hold all the power when it comes to beauty. Our tastes may be groomed by the media, but how we feel about how we look brings our self-image into focus. Armed with something more potent than lip gloss - a mouth so shocking and raunchy it should be stamped with a warning - Cho toured America with her manifesto: "This show is really about how we should feel beautiful," says Cho. "When you feel beautiful, you're going to have more of a willingness to use your voice to speak." Shot at the Long Beach Terrace Theater, Cho's latest stand-up concert film, Beautiful, explores the good, bad, and downright ugly in beauty, and the unattractive politicians and marketers who shape our world.

All-American Girl (1994) [TV] Douban
director: Terry Hughes actor: Margaret Cho / Amy Hill
Based around the stand-up routines of comedienne Margaret Cho, this series looked at the culture clashes that occured between a traditional Korean mother and her fully Americanized daughter. Mom just wants Margaret to marry 'respectable' men: doctors, lawyers, scientists (and always Korean), while her daughter is more interested in Caucasian bikers, musicians, and any other type that her mother is bound to hate. Through all of this, Dad knows better than to interfere, and just keeps out of the fray. Written by Jean-Marc Rocher {[email protected]}

Call Me Lucky
8.8 (5 ratings) director: 博卡·格德斯维特 actor: Barry Crimmins / 戴维·克罗斯
other title: 叫我幸运 / コール・ミー・ラッキー
Barry Crimmins is pissed. His hellfire brand of comedy has rained verbal lightning bolts on American audiences and politicians for decades, yet you've probably never heard of him. But once you've experienced Bobcat Goldthwait's brilliant character portrait of him and heard Crimmins's secret, you will never forget him. From his unmistakable bullish frame came a scathingly ribald stand-up style that took early audiences by force. Through stark, smart observation and judo-like turns of phrase, Crimmins's rapid-fire comedy was a war on ignorance and complacency in '80s America at the height of an ill-considered foreign policy. Crimmins discusses another side of his character, revealing in detail a dark and painful past that inspired his life-changing campaign of activism in the hope of saving others from a similar experience. Interviews with comics like Margaret Cho and Marc Maron illustrate Crimmins's love affair with comedy and his role in discovering and supporting the development of many of today's stars. As a venerated member of America's comic community, Crimmins could be your newest national treasure. Just don't tell him that.
