A murder is announced in the Chipping Cleghorne Gazette to take place on October 5th, 7 PM at Little Paddocks cottage. A young couple, the Robinson's, rent a beautiful new flat for about the half the going rate of the same flats in the building. Poirot is puzzled by this, when he hears that many others had tried to rent the flat and were turned down. Poirot believes there is something unique about the Robinson's, and that whatever it is that makes them different, that difference is somehow related to a woman who stole secret American submarine plans and has fled to London. An FBI agent has joined forces with Inspector Japp and his team from Scotland Yard to follow the thief and recover the stolen plans, but the partnership between the FBI and Scotland Yard is far from cordial.

Letters Live presented its first season of shows in 2015 at the iconic Freemasons’ Hall, one of the finest Art Deco buildings in Britain, with Benedict Cumberbatch & Louise Brealey in starring roles.
Cumberbatch and Brealey took to the stage for each of the nights, reading letters alongside a diverse array of world class performers including luminaries from the stage, screen, music, art and literary worlds. A full listing of those who appeared during that week of shows can be seen on the page opposite including Paul Ryan who performed offstage the Voice of God for each event.

Henry Fallon, who is wheelchair bound and is suffering from a neurological disorder, apparently commits suicide and Morse has mixed feelings working on this case as he was once engaged to the dead man's wife, Susan Fallon. The body was found by his son-in-law Peter Rhodes, a local antiques dealer and the victim's wife was in London. When Fallon's doctor advises Morse that Henry didn't have the physical capability to hold a gun to his head, the police realize they may have a murder on their hands. When the police are told that the business arrangement between Fallon and Rhodes had fallen apart, they also have a suspect. Lewis is concerned that Morse is too close to Mrs. Fallon to be objective but in the end, the perpetrators are identified.
