《飞翔的马戏团》从形式上看类似于今天的电视小品，但它绝不受任何一种规范或模式的约束，我们从头至尾也看不到一个惯用的伎俩或模式化的重复。6个高智商活宝的创作灵感永远天马行空随兴所至，每一集的内容或破碎或连贯，可能是几个独立的故事，可能是几条相互交叉的线索，也可能是一堆毫无瓜葛的碎片。只要是他们灵机一动想到的东西，全都大胆地用摄影机拍摄了下来。除了极个别偶尔客串的朋友(在迫不得已的情况下他们必须需要的“性感美女”角色，都是由“真正的”女演员卡萝尔-克力夫兰扮演的)，整套剧中几乎所有有台词的角色都是活宝们亲自上阵，你所能像想到的各式奇装异服的打扮几乎全被他们尝试过了。
《飞翔的马戏团》嘲弄取笑，有时甚至是恶意羞辱的对象包括历史人物、哲学理论、政治立场、宗教教义、社会现象、公众意识等等。从维多利亚女王到普通的英国家庭妇女，从电视媒体制造的泡沫到日常生活中实实在在的细枝末节都是他们信手拈来的素材。而“巨蟒”对暴力或性等争议话题的处理也非常巧妙，既不会显得遮遮掩掩，也让审查机构无可奈何，这其中当然少不了泰里-基廉巧思妙想穿插剧中的卡通制作的功劳。
事实上，初看《飞翔的马戏团》或任何一部“巨蟒制造”的观众很可能会感到难以适应。乡土气极重的杜撰英国口音和有时显得十分白痴的行为和聒噪的对白会让人不知所云，而且节目中很大一部分内容也的确是纯属白痴的胡闹和小丑式的插科打诨。而这节目妙就妙在，这些貌似毫无价值的胡话连篇中经常会迸发出让人惊叹的绝妙创意，从极粗俗的角度彻底揭露人类文明中所有道貌岸然的嘴脸。大概所谓“大智若愚”的最高境界就在于此了。

Their mission is full of adventure and mishaps, as this mismatched duo try to tolerate each other long enough to get the job done.

Young history buff Kevin can scarcely believe it when six dwarfs emerge from his closet one night. Former employees of the Supreme Being, they've purloined a map charting all of the holes in the fabric of time and are using it to steal treasures from different historical eras. Taking Kevin with them, they variously drop in on Napoleon, Robin Hood and King Agamemnon before the Supreme Being catches up with them.

Monty Python perform many of their greatest sketches at the Hollywood Bowl, including several from pre-Python days.

Monty Python's Fliegender Zirkus consisted of two 45-minute Monty Python specials produced by WDR for West German television in 1971 and 1972. The two episodes were first broadcast in January and December 1972, respectively. They were shot entirely on film, mainly on location in Bavaria and in the German language, although the second episode was originally recorded in English and then dubbed into German. According to the Python's autobiography The Pythons, this was due to the fact that only John Cleese and Michael Palin could be easily understood by the German audience during the first episode. The other Python performers all had very thick accents (particularly Terry Jones), making them difficult to understand. According to the book in some cases the episode was even broadcast with German subtitles. Some of the material was reworked from At Last the 1948 Show. Footage from these specials was used to fill time between live stage performances. At one point the team considered editing the two shows together, dubbing them completely into English and releasing them as a 90-minute film, but it never came about.
