《梅林：失踪岁月》堪称是“梅林前传”，很多电影公司都曾希望能把它拍成自己的“哈利波特”系列电影。在迪士尼之前，米拉迈克斯（Miramax）、派拉蒙（Paramount）以及华纳兄弟（Warner Bros.）都曾接手过这个计划。
