負責銷售高級住宅的房地產經紀（江華飾演）與前妻（馮曉文飾演）因以夫妻名義合資購買了居屋，離婚後無奈仍要同住一室，兩人關係始終欲斷未斷、錯綜複雜，偶爾會在示範單位留宿；經紀的同事（林其欣飾演）是隻身回流香港的單身女子，香港的表親亦移民，面對空洞無人的房子，常常感到孤單寂寞，經常借故找經紀作伴；同在這楝高級住宅工作的保安員(胡宏達飾演)，因為以往家貧住天台鐵皮屋，將女兒送給親戚，老來孤身一人，在得悉自己患了絕症後，選擇在示範單位內自殺。故事反映了當時香港的住屋問題，也從各個角色的心理狀態，探討都市人對家的真正需要，一個棲身之所實際上是對安全感的一種追求。
