江行健（林志颖 饰）和江行康（郝邵文 饰）两兄弟的父母在一次交通事故中不幸遇难，孤苦伶仃的两人被爷爷（郎雄 饰）收养。爷爷是大企业的董事长，平日里总以一副威严的面孔示人，他对江行健的要求十分严格，希望他能够管好弟弟，做弟弟的好榜样。
尽管江行健十分努力，但还是屡屡遭到爷爷的责骂，几经波折之后，爷爷和江行健之间的关系总算有了一丝温馨的味道。然而，一次偶然中，江行康无意将父母生前留下的唯一一盘录像带给洗掉了，这令江行健十分郁闷，不得不借酒消愁，恰好被爷爷撞破。爷爷打算将不成器的江行健送往寄宿学校，愤怒和失望之中，江行健爬上了一个高耸入云的大树。

A meek, middle-aged schoolteacher is put in charge of a class of trouble makers. Unable to withstand the torments they put him through, he runs away to a Shaolin temple. At the temple, he studies martial arts under the guidance of an old master. With his new skills, he returns to school and whips his misbehaving students into shape.

Poor young cobbler Wu Di lives with his mother and is crazy about martial-arts picture books. One day he repairs the shoe of wandering swordswoman Yuelou and later helps save her in a fight with wanted criminal Tian Baguang, even though he has no martial-arts training. She tells him she owes him a life and can be found on Qin Mountain if he ever needs her. Yuelou is actually a princess who was due to marry the emperor but ran away after setting fire to her palace quarters. In love, Wu Di sets out to find her, fighting river pirate Dugu and his sidekick on the way, and also meeting a hermit Buddhist monk who offers to take him on as a pupil.
