Ross Bodine and Frank Post are cowhands on Walt Buckman's R-Bar-R ranch. Bodine is older and broods a bit about how he will get along when he's too old to cowboy. Post is young and rambunctious and ambitious for a better life than wrangling cows. When one of their fellow cowboys is killed in a corral accident, Post suggests a way into a better life for himself and his friend: robbing a bank. Bodine reluctantly joins in the plan and the two contrive to rob the local bank. They make good their escape initially, but Walt Buckman and his two sons, John and Paul, are incensed at this betrayal by their own trusted employees. John and Paul set out to bring Bodine and Post to justice.

Jonathan Smith (Michael Landon) ist ein Engel, der von Gott

helfen. Er ist für sie da, redet mit ihnen und versucht
auch selbst durch Taten und nicht nur durch Worte etwas
zu bewirken. Dabei stoesst er auf verschiedene Charaktere
und immer wieder neue Probleme. Ob alt oder jung, arm
oder reich, Kranke oder Gesunde: er ist für jeden da,
der seine Hilfe braucht. Aeusserlich sieht er aus wie
ein normaler Mensch, so dass auch niemand daran
zweifelt, dass Jonathan einfach nur ein ueberaus
netter Mensch ist, der Gutes tun moechte. Einzig und
allein der Ex-Polizist Marc Gordon (Victor French)
ist misstrauisch ueber soviel selbstlose Aufopferung
fuer andere und kommt ihm bald auf die Schliche.
Jonathan hat keine Wahl er muss ihm die Wahrheit
sagen. Obwohl Marc ihn anfangs für einen Verrueckten
haelt, wird ihm bald das Gegenteil bewiesen. Marc
traut seinen Augen nicht, doch er versucht Jonathan
zu glauben. Die beiden freunden sich an und Marc
beschliesst, Jonathan auf seiner Mission zu folgen
und ihn zu unterstuetzen
