17年前，一名少女从外太空而来，手上拿著传动指挥器，并晕到在海滩上。同时， 机兽帝国加鲁法亦从宇宙飞来，威胁地球的安全。17年後的一日，刚搬来星见町的小五学生草剃　北斗偶然下认识了熟练功夫的出云　银河， 碰巧有一大群加鲁法机械兽，从月球的螺旋城飞来。两人在逃亡中，突然遇到秘密组织GEAR的传动战士电童， 电童与他们产生了感应，并拣选了他们成为驾驶员，在原先的驾驶员维嘉指导下， 他们成功战胜了加鲁法机械兽，从此亦兼负上守护地球的责任。
另一部由加鲁法本星直接侵袭地球的黑色传动战士凰牙突然来袭，由阿鲁提亚驾驶著， 要储存数据武器，很好维嘉及时阻止，但凰牙将电童带上月球螺旋城。银河和北斗好不容易才脱险， 在维嘉协助下取回电童，幸好数据武器独角金钻兽出现，北斗储存了它，并安装于电童上，成功打败凰牙。
从美国而来的女子艾利丝，转校到两人的学校，同时银河亦取得环型狮子，回到GEAR总部时， 知道艾利丝是大学毕业，负责分析数据武器的研究人员。艾利丝不慎弄失了两只武器，使电童陷入险境， 幸好终於想出办法，引出所有数据武器，北斗、银河和阿鲁提亚，都分别储存了它们。阿鲁提亚知道电童最大的弱点， 就是使用完终极攻击後，会消耗所有电力，并将电童击败。幸好GEAR发明了替电童更换电池的电池战士， 由吉良国进驾驶，能够在作战中更换电童的电池，使电童战胜了凰牙。
六件数据武器一旦与拥有它们的人建立了契约，就不会被其他人抢走，但是数据武器会选择合适的人。 北斗的独角金钻兽需要的是「信赖」、闪光火龙需要的是「爱」，银河的环型狮子需要的是「勇气」、 机枪野猪需要的是「创造」，而落入阿鲁提亚的音速鞭蛇需要的是「自信」、狂暴公牛需要的是「智慧」。
加鲁法王的宠物拉可来袭地球，并令独角金钻兽和环型狮子中了病毒，为了解毒，银河和北斗上了月球寻找拉可， 可是仍然来不及，正当两只数据武器消失之际，突然来了一鼓新的力量，独角金钻兽和环型狮子合体成为超兽王辉刃， 并将拉可消灭。
阿鲁提亚驾驶的骑士凰牙再度来袭，并捉走了自己的妹妹维嘉，维嘉亦知道阿鲁提亚被消去了记忆。这时北斗也知道自己的母亲草剃织绘， 就是GEAR副司令维嘉。阿鲁提亚知道了这一点，使北斗和银河失去斗志，并解除与数据武器的契约，令所有数据武器都落在阿鲁提亚手上。 阿鲁提亚在古尔梅的攻击下回复记忆，协助电童战斗，战胜了古尔梅。螺旋城亦撞向地球，要把地球毁灭， 北斗和银河分别驾驶凰牙和电童阻止，并粉碎了螺旋城。
加鲁法王的「儿子」スバル来到地球，派出机械战士，并分开电童和凰牙，机械战士被消灭後， 北斗及凰牙却被スバル捉去。スバル为北斗洗脑，令他驾驶著凰牙对付电童，就像以前的阿鲁提亚。 银河知道只有他才能令北斗正常，决心打赢他，北斗亦在战斗中回复记忆。
スバル的手下谢罗派出两只机械兽对付凰牙，这时ZERO令スバル的机械兽爆炸，想炸死スバル和北斗， 幸好银河的电童及时救了他们。其後スバル知道自己一直都被利用，於是决定协助北斗他们，对付加鲁法。 加鲁法要消灭地球，众人主动上宇宙，与加鲁法展开最後一战。

Five children save the life of a dog-like alien while at a self-run summer camp. He attempts to reward them by taking them to an alien colony on the Moon. Events take a turn for the worse when his report on that attack that injured him causes passage from the Moon to the Earth to be banned, and children are stranded in space. The children need to find a way back home before camp ends and their parents discover that they are missing. They also have to avoid the poachers that injured their alien friend, and now seem to be stalking them all.
