Set at the turn of the century, the story concerns a Polish poet living in Cracow who has decided to marry a peasant girl. The wedding is attended by a heterogenous group of people from all strata of Polish society, who dance, get drunk and lament Poland's 100-year-long division of Poland under Russia, Prussia, and Austria. The bridegroom, a painter friend, and a journalist each in turn is confronted with spectres of Polish past. In the end a call to arms is called but turns out to be a hoax.

Based on a non-fiction bestseller of the same name by Rolf Hochhuth, Eine Liebe In Deutschland is about a tragic and forbidden love affair between Stanislaw, a Polish POW (Piotr Lysak) and Paulina (Hanna Schygulla) a fruit-and-vegetable vendor in a small town in Germany along the border with Switzerland. Their affair would have gone undetected except for the busybody women of the village, and when Stanislaw is picked up by a German stormtrooper (Armin Müller-Stahl) and brought in for a mock trial, he is given a chance to prove his racial purity and so perhaps escape execution. As for Paulina, she is ostracized by the villagers and imprisoned for consorting with someone who was not of the same high Aryan caste as herself. Depressing, yet politically relevant to Poland of the early 1980s, this film by acclaimed director Andrzej Wajda) is an effective and emotional statement on the nature of oppression.

Film opens with the mad rush of haphazard freedom as the concentration camps are liberated. Men are trying to grab food, change clothes, bury their tormentors they find alive. Then they are herded into other camps as the Allies try to devise policy to control the situation. A young poet who cannot quite find himself in this new situation, meets a headstrong Jewish young girl who wants him to run off with her, to the West. He cannot cope with her growing demands for affection, while still harboring the hatred for the Germans and disdain for his fellow men who quickly revert to petty enmities.

“Why does nobody ask me if there was love in the ghetto? Why is nobody interested?” so asked Marek Edelman, resistance fighter and one leader of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, interviewed by Jolanta Dylewska in 2009, shortly before his death. With re-enacted scenes co-written by Agnieszka Holland and directed by Andrzej Wajda, shortly before his death.

This film is an attempt to capture the phenomenon of a common man’s metamorphosis into a charismatic leader — an attempt to see how a Gdansk shipyard electrician fighting for workers’ rights awakened a hidden desire for freedom in millions of people.

As an aging woman married to a workaholic doctor by chance meets a young man who makes her feel young again. All of this is films by a director making a film about her which cuts in and out of the on camera and off camera drama.

A violinist in a provincial Polish orchestra, whose husband is the director of the ensemble, on a visit to the US ties up with the world- renowned symphony conductor. As it turns out he was once in love with violinist's mother. The conductor, a slightly unstable hypochondriac, returns to Poland to lead the provincial orchestra. He also tries to revive old love affair using the violinist as a surrogate of her mother. Her husband is resentful of the conductor for both personal and professional reasons.

I enjoyed Dead class very much, They told me Wajda was disappointed by his own work but I don't know why. Maybe is acting too loud? Maybe acting was supposed to be more mechanical, actors more unrelated between them, but I think that's an impressive performance all the same. Culture is useless, children are dead, they are already lonely adults, adults are ex- children who can't remember their childhood. They behave like obsessed robots. Obsessed by memories of questions with automatic replies, that is by questions with no replies, everyone submitted to a questioning authority, everyone pursuing one's own impulses. Tyranny and nihilism. They can't see any world beyond their impulses and authority rules over them totally unseen. Autorithy is Kantor himself: actors think they are free, they are just destructive. Dead class reminds me of Fight club but I think Dead class is far better. Fight club says destructive impulses are a way to freedom, Dead class says they help authority to rule. And I think Kantor is right.
