这次在威廉王子婚礼上担当婚礼蛋糕师重任的是著名蛋糕师菲奥娜。２５年前，她从自家厨房的饭桌开始了自己的蛋糕制作生涯。凯特在亲自对蛋糕师做了细致调查后，最终选择了这位极富创意的女蛋糕师。
经过筛选和讨论，最终呈现在婚礼上的，可能是在英格兰十分流行的传统多层干果蛋糕。蛋糕用经典的英伦花式作为装饰，写着代表威廉和凯特的Ｗ＆Ｋ字样。凯特十分中意花草主题，蛋糕四角将分别由英格兰玫瑰、苏格兰蓟花、威尔士水仙花以及北爱尔兰的白花酢浆草点缀。
据菲奥娜透露，蛋糕的制作秘诀之一是巧用白兰地。威廉王子的婚礼蛋糕会用到葡萄干、胡桃仁、樱桃、柑橘和柠檬片等食材，其中不少食材会用白兰地浸泡一段时间，使香味更醇厚。
由于威廉王子钟爱巧克力，他特意要求菲奥娜再研制一些巧克力味道的饼干和蛋糕，用于招待参加白金汉宫宴会的宾客。
