君子（仲间由纪惠 饰）和恋人山本矶次郎（谷原章介 饰）结婚了，没有隆重的婚礼，没有亲戚的出席，只是简简单单的两个人，许下了相伴度过一生的誓言。自由自在惯了的君子对于社会上的种种繁文缛节十分厌倦，矶次郎当然是夫随妻愿，可是作为婆婆的志摩子（松板庆子 饰）可不乐意了，她希望新媳妇能够光明正大的进门。
应了志摩子的要求，君子和矶次郎回到了老家，准备补办婚礼。婆婆的严格和轻视让君子心里很不服气，所以，周旋在亲戚之间，君子十分的努力，希望能够获得志摩子的认可。随着时间的推移，本就不善交际的君子感到自己背负的重担越来越沉，终于有一天，不堪重负的她向矶次郎提出了离婚的请求。
