The film follows Sanna, who sets out to document the countless ways there are to ruin a marriage for her doctoral thesis.

A few days before Christmas Eve the last sack of letters arrives to Santa. At the bottom is a letter that is a bit older than the others, it's a drawing. While the curious Santa tries to figure out what the drawing looks like, strange things begin to happen.

Thomas is a movie about compassion, forgiveness, and atonement. Thomas, in the autumn of his life, lives a simple and isolated life in his below-street-level apartment, accompanied by a radio, a chess board, and a photo of his wife. He does not venture outside very often; and when he does, the outside world reminds him of his advanced age, his loneliness, and times he would not care to remember. He feels like a never-ending story; and to make himself whole, Thomas has to face his past. "I am old, and life is long". First work.

The ever-poker-faced Ilona loses her job as a restaurant hostess, as her tram driver husband, Lauri, also finds himself out of work. Together they must hit the streets of Helsinki, facing up to hardship and humiliation in their quest for survival, guided through the gloom by a ray of hope.
