Posket是伦敦当地的治安法官，不久前娶了寡妇Agatha Farringdon。但他的新婚妻子其实对他有所隐瞒，Agatha谎称自己31岁，她与前夫的儿子Cis Farringdon14岁，但事实上，她已经36岁，而Cis已经19岁。由于一位熟知Agatha过去的友人Colonel Lukyn要造访Posket，她不得不撒谎去酒店夜会旧友，求他不要揭穿她的谎言。与此同时，Posket在继子Cis的引诱下，也偷偷前往了同家酒店玩乐。
就这样几个人在不知情地在同一屋檐下各自达成目的。由于市政府对商家夜晚有禁灯令，酒店突然被警察突击检查，几个人在惊恐和黑暗之下被老板安排一起躲在一间屋子的不同角落。但聪明的警官很快就识破了把戏。Posket和Cis跳窗而逃，Agatha等人不但被抓还与警官起了争执，结果被关进了当地的监狱。
Posket虽然侥幸逃出，但是落得十分狼狈，一路惊险最后到达了自己的办公室。他早上要审理的第一件案子里竟然有自己的妻子，而精神恍惚的他判罚妻子等人7天的监禁，并且不得保释。
Agatha等人最后还是被释放了，回家之后，虽然她很愤怒自己丈夫的判决，但也无法合理解释自己会出现在酒店的原因，只好坦白自己年龄的谎言，而Posket也原谅了她。
