故事梗概：
故事发生在二战时期的法国。1940年，德国军队即将占领巴黎，上流社会的寡妇迪安娜和女友-橡胶大亨的独生女路丝及她的男友阿尔贝特一同向其他城市逃亡。和他们一起上路的还有外交部官员鲁阿克。在郊区，他们的汽车遭到德国飞机的轰炸，当地农民莫里斯把他们救到自己家中，莫里斯本人却受了伤。
在莫里斯家的农场里，这群来自巴黎上流社会的贵妇和绅士们开始了像农民一般的生活。尽管他们对干农活非常不屑，但无奈莫里斯受伤，恰好又到了收割季节，家中缺少劳动力，莫里斯的妈妈奥尔莱特没有富裕钱养活这群城里人。要想在乡下躲避战火，就必须付出劳动。
但阿尔贝特一心想要回到过去的生活，他信誓旦旦地宣布要告别在乡下的这种低贱生活，独自一人向城市走去，却在路上中暑，最终还是被村民送回了莫里斯家。与此同时，迪安娜发现农场并不是莫里斯家的，土地是从当地伯爵手中租来的。如果交不上租金，莫里斯全家将和迪安娜他们一样无家可归。
为了帮助莫里斯一家，迪安娜和朋友们一起找到了伯爵，并以自己在上流社会的地位赢得了伯爵的尊重。伯爵输给了闲暇以打牌为消遣的鲁阿克大量现金，无奈之下，只得同意鲁阿克的要求：撤销收回莫里斯家土地的决定。其实这也正是鲁阿克和朋友们到伯爵家的目的。
在奥尔莱特和莫里斯的千恩万谢下，迪安娜他们踏上了返家的路。他们以为战争结束了，德国人已经撤离了巴黎。没想到却在路上被德国军队拦截了下来……
精彩视点：
本片讲述了二战时期四个来自所谓上流社会的绅士贵妇为躲避战争从巴黎出逃，路上借住在农庄里，并为了生活不得不干起自己一辈子也没有做过的农活。影片结尾处，四个人以为战争结束了，返回巴黎的路上却被德国军队拦截了下来，究竟他们是否还能像此前一样用自己的智慧幸运地逃离德国人的魔爪，影片留给了观众很大的想像空间。
影片诙谐幽默，颇具讽刺意味。男主演阿里耶勒·东巴斯曾出演过《环游地球八十天》、《勇士斗凯撒》等影片，在本片中的表演也比较出色。
