When Jesus is taken off the cross at Golgotha, Thomas arrives. Like most other disciples, he worriedly took refuge with friends in Jerusalem after Jesus's arrest. After Jesus's burial, the disciples decide to leave Jerusalem quickly, but Thomas refuses to leave Jesus' body behind, as he fears that the tomb may be desecrated.

故事发生在原罗马尼亚首都布加勒斯特。印刷厂老板罗格从德国引进了一套先进的印刷设备，但在使用中却频频发生故障。年轻德国技师斯蒂芬跟随机器一道来到这个破败而萧条的城市。在这里，他爱上了罗格年轻漂亮的女秘书布琳杜萨。在儿子准备与布琳杜萨完婚之际，斯蒂芬的父母也带着一家老小也从柏林赶来参加儿子的婚礼。此时，人们忽然发现，在已婚的罗格与布琳杜萨之间似有一层不明不白的暧昧关系。布琳杜萨决心与罗格一刀两断，跟随斯蒂芬回到柏林去过一种安逸的生活。而罗格却誓死也不肯放弃这段情缘。在两位新人的婚礼上，罗格突然出现，他掏出手枪，逼迫布琳杜萨当众承认她与自己的私情。情绪激动的罗格不小心用手枪误伤了自己，而斯蒂芬和布琳杜萨的婚礼也由此被搅的一团混乱……

影片从一个非常独特的视角表现了当代罗马尼亚困顿的社会生活。经济的凋敝使它不得不依赖其他欧洲发达国家的援助。在这个过程中，罗马尼亚人一方面感受到了人格的屈辱，另一方面又不得不依靠向外来者炫耀自身多样性的文化传统来为自己找回一点可怜的民族尊严。印刷厂老板罗格应该被看作是当代罗马尼亚人的典型。他一方面极度自负，希望在与西方国家的经济合作中获得优势地位，而另一方面又不得不整天看着那几个肥头大耳的法国投资商的脸色行事。影片用种种方式暗示出东西方国家在沟通和交流方面存在的困难和障碍，如罗格总是要经由布琳杜萨的翻译才能与来自德国和法国的投资商、工程师交谈。而那些来自德国的品质优良的印刷机器也总是无缘无故出现机械故障。这些细节，实际上都暗示着横亘于东西方国家之间的巨大鸿沟。这种隔阂也为斯蒂芬与布琳杜萨的跨国婚姻带来了许多麻烦，人们只能在无奈和守望中静静等待着明天的到来。
