19 year old Wojtek lives in a poverty stricken Polish town. He is in love with an older woman, an illegal emigrant from Ukraine. He boxes in illegal matches to get money and is spotted by a man running a security business. Accepting this man's offer means becoming a gangster, but this could allow him to a residence permit for his girlfriend Katya.

Inspired by stories of Polish musicians from the 1930s and 40s. Two young lovers, Robert, a Catholic opera singer, and Rachel, a Jewish violin virtuoso, dream of one day performing together at legendary Carnegie Hall. When they're torn apart by the German invasion of Poland, Robert vows to find Rachel, no matter what the war may bring. His search leads him on a life-threatening journey through the heart of Nazi Germany, to a reckoning that Rachel may be lost to him forever.

Jerzy is a celebrity writer and a chronic alcoholic who camouflages his drinking problem with his wits and charm. As a frequent visitor of the rehab center, he meets fellow addicts from all walks of life and social backgrounds.

A directorial work from Slawomir Idziak, acclaimed cinematographer best known for his work with Kieslowski on A Short Film About Killing, The Double Life Of Veronique and Three Colours Blue. His highly distinctive visual style and extraordinary use of colour and filters is in full effect here, as evinced in the screenshots - shifting between tinted black and white and filtered colour (mixed with video and images refilmed off television screens), the cumulative effect is both expressive and poetic.
The film concerns astronaut Enak Charles, who, posted in space, refuses to return to Earth without giving any reasons for his decision. The world is plunged into political crisis - the biggest since the Cold War. Sensation hungry reporters begin to exploit the scandal, tracking down his former wife (the luminous Irene Jacob, with whom Idziak worked on The Double Life Of Veronique) and examining his past in communist Poland. Idziak chose the title of the film as an homage to "Citizen Kane" ("Enak" is simply "Kane" read backwards), also a favourite film of the late Kieslowski. The construction of the scenario also recalls Welles' masterpiece.

The problem is that Archbishop Mordowicz (Janusz Gajos) is standing in his way, a luxurious dignitary who uses political influence to build the largest sanctuary in Poland... The second of the priests - Trybus (Robert Wieckiewicz), unlike Lisowski, is a rural pastor. Serving in a place full of poverty, he increasingly succumbs to human weaknesses. Kukule (Arkadiusz Jakubik) is also not very successful, who - despite his fervent faith - actually loses the trust of parishioners day by day. Soon, the stories of the three clergy will merge once again, and the events that will take place will have an impact on the life of each of them.
